Your Management Style: Carrot or Stick?

Keep those people working. That's got to be part of the goal of corporate performance management. The question is, are you a carrot person or a stick person. In one of my jobs I suffered because I am a carrot person, so I like to reason with people and make them see the value in a particular course of action. My boss was a stick person, who liked to browbeat people into doing what he wanted. In the end, our management styles were incompatible. What's your management style?

If I were management material I would be

like you SharonHH- a carrot person. I am very much into reasoning with people and getting them to see a point. Although that can also be my demise with people as my kids say and even my boss from time to time.(She is also one of my best friends) They say I like to go on and on to make my point.

Yes, being a carrot person means a lot of explanation - probably easier to be a short, sharp stick person, but I could never do it
