You know you're in for a long life when...

You know you're in for a long life when every time you check your account balance, it's always either overdrawn, or has two dollars in it. Your current job (the best one you can find) pays only just over $200 per pay, and only if you constantly bug your boss for more hours, you owe your landlord nearly a grand in rent, and your mother offers you one of her small credit cards to help pay for groceries after she had a hard winter of surviving off of, you guessed it, her credit cards.

I'm a college student, not yet 21 years old, and it's in this time of my life when I finally come to terms with the real meaning behind, "Enjoy these years, they're the best of your life." That line every parent spoon fed their kid ever since they turned into a moody thirteen year old.

I work at KFC, this week I worked six days, but three of those days are two to three hours shifts, and I can't ask for anymore hours because now I have the other workers and even the damn supervisor down my neck with how I'm "Taking" their shifts.

The landlord is being good about all of this though, a lot better then I thought he would be. But then again, he's rich, so I guess a thousand bucks isn't such a big deal for him to wait for when he runs a house that's supposed to be for students (half the kids who live here don't go to school, and one resident is nearly forty years old).

I had two jobs at first to help pay for everything. One at the Bingo Palace and the other at KFC. However, the Bingo Palace fired me, saying that I just was not picking up on things fast enough. Which was a lie since I was doing just fine, the things I didn't know were the things no one told me, and one of the supervisors and her gossipy friend hated me.

I didn't tell my mother at first to avoid worrying her, but when I did she gave me a little credit card, told me to mast the signature and it was fine that I couldn't pay her back.

Thank God, because it's no wonder I'm losing so much weight when I can barely afford to get a loaf of bread from the corner store.

But I'm still young, and I wanted to lose weight anyway. Things have to pick up when I graduate, right?

being broke

Ouch.. I feel for you. Two jobs and going to school? That must be hard. Look for a better job! You seem able to type and you have good grammar, even a clerical job would pay better than KFC.

Good luck to you.

Thanks

I have been looking for another job since the start of March, but haven't found anything yet, but you're right, I should look into clerical jobs. Maybe I could find something when summer starts and I get out of school and have more time on my hands.

typo?

I would love to make "just over $200 per day". Was that a typo? I have college degree and I barely make that in a week at my regular job. If I wasn't doing other things to supplement my income, I wouldn't be able to survive.

Not a typo

It says "$200 per pay" ^_^; I thought I made a really big mistake there for a sec.

Any bars by you?

Can you find a bartending or serving job? I don't usually make less than $200 a shift. The downside is that during June, July & August I'll be lucky to make $40 a shift. Everyone goes on vacation. But if you are good at saving, you can easily take your really good days ($300) and hold onto that extra money for the days when you only take home $40.
Also if you can get a job like that, even if temporary, you have the opportunity to meet alot of people that could reccomend you to a better place.
I agree with pchan. I went to school for graphic design. Spent all this time and money just to discover that I can make way more bartending. It was pretty dissappointing.

Good idea

That's actually a good idea I've been looking into. I just need to get my smart serve first, and if that doesn't work out then I'm going to try and get a job at Best Western or something. They pay pretty well and have nice hours :)
