You Call That A Debate?

I don't know about you guys but the "debate" between Obama and Hillary was almost too polite! I know that we are all tired of the back stabbing and mud slinging, but WTF??

I will give kudos to Hillary for her closing statement as I did feel that for the first time, in a very long time, she was being genuine.

That being said, her attack on Obamas "plagiarism" was booed and she then turns right around and "borrows" a few select words from the Edwards campaign speeches! Hmmmmm.

My father was one of the very best debaters in his day...why? Because he published over 50 books in History, and with that kind of knowledge he could pretty much pick a side of an argument and win it. Even when he knew that he was wrong, he would still debate because he was teaching his own kids how to win a crappy argument "debate"...and you know what? Those debates got very, very heated. YES it IS possible to have a debate and despite it's being heated one need NOT resort to being ugly and slinging mud...Zeerox THAT! (yeah I know my spelling sucks...wanna debate it?)

This is why Hillary makes herself look bad...she can't resort to the tried and true attacks of the past, so she looks like a fish out of water. I sort of felt sorry for her, and then she made her little crack and got handily booed for her efforts...it made her look unsure of herself too, and that in ANY decent debate is the quickest way to lose...even if you are wrong, don't act like you KNOW you are wrong!

I think that when all is said and done both Obama and Hillary will be the team to beat, because what I also believe is that whichever of the two wins the nomination they will ask the other to be their running mate. It seemed like that was the REAL purpose of this "Speechy, Debate, Lets be pals" talk.

I am hopeful that by the time we have our nominee he/she will take a class or two in the art of debating...If Obama wins he may need to be a tad tougher with McCain, and Hillary needs to tone down the "go for the balls" tactics of her hubby. It's about time these two hook up and call it a day, so that we can get to the business of beating McCain and his non ending mud slinging...we'll talk about the NY times article some other time:) LOL. *SIGH*

you're rite sassy, write? sassy?, All right, sassy!

a river  ...I like where you going with this. Seems like I'm not the only one that saw it like the heavy weight fight between the "ole' beloved" champion Sonnie Liston, and the young, full of mouth and 'WORDS' Cassius Clay.

Wow numbdeplum great way to put it:>

Yeah it was kind of like that except it was too "polite"...This is why Hillary doesn't get it, because she can't win if she's mean, and she can't win if she agrees! Obama started off by simply being REAL in who he is and what he stands for, and that is indisputable. You can't debate an issue with someone else if at the core of the issue you agree!

I guarantee you,

they will not "hook up". Word is, they have been "civil" with each other since they first met, and I am choosing my words very carefully here. I said it before the election ever started, and I reiterate it now- neither one is going to take a VP slot under the other.

Well I hate to read that IG!

It could be that the egos involved wont permit it...then again it could be that each one would require someone more maliable (SP?) or submissive. Too bad because if they would only recognize each others strengths, versus their differences, it would be one hell of a team.

I lean in a different direction.

It's not that I vote solely Democrat. It's that I avoid Republicans. lol That being said, I think it might be best if they were not together on the same ticket. You could have a Democrat lock on the White House for a long time to come. But if they are on the same ticket, the VP will pay for the other's mistakes, but not necessarily get to revel in their achievements. Al Gore, you know? And I don't see Americans wishing that anyone could stay in longer than 8 years. Not anymore.

Apart from that, I think you nailed it. Two incredibly strong candidates like that will only bump heads. I think that someone with a smaller profile would be much better in there. For Clinton, I favor Bill Richardson. For Obama, I have a pick, but it's tricky. Wes Clark would be amazing for Obama, because nobody could touch him on experience. But Clark is supporting Clinton, and I expect he will continue to do so for as long as she's in the race. Even then, he may feel some loyalty to Clinton. So, we'll see after TX/OH/PA.

I also think IG that Edwards

Sassys

would be a decent choice...he's quite popular and he does have a loyal following that would be quite valuable to either of the candidates..I too avoid Republicans. at least the ones that are "politicos" LOL. And I don't think I know too many that aren't :(

IntricateGirl's picture

I like Edwards.

Don't get me wrong. Edwards has got a lot to offer, and he may yet become President. But I don't think he has enough to offer Clinton or Obama. A cabinet position, certainly. But I'm not yet convinced about VP. It's an especially tough choice this year, because the Presidential candidates are so dynamic.

Yeah IG I too like Edwards

Sassys

he comes across as being meek in comparison to either Obama or Hillary, but he was and still is genuine in his demeanor and I like to believe in his politics...even when he attacked it was meek. The strong silent type perhaps? I think he would be just the ticket for VP but who knows...it should be announced BEFORE we pick our nominee...it could make a huge difference as to how people will vote, come time for the REAL fight! I wonder who will be nominated to run with McCain? For the sake of fireworks and downright hilarity, I hope he picks someone like Dan Quail! HAH!

Better than syrup of ipecac.

Don't say that. I'm not superstitious, but knock on wood that it doesn't happen. Eek! lol

How about

Why not make the race really interesting? Joseph Wilson?........or.......Valerie Plame?

Mz Zola either one of these two would be great!

Sassys

If Clinton wins she would be CRAZY to nominate Plame...This country is barely ready to trust one woman let alone two! Obama possibly could nominate Mz. Plame but it would be risky. We shall see:)
