Writing Resources - Write A Novel

So you want to write a novel? Have you started it yet?

Is it lost in some desk drawer or old computer file? Is it always "incomplete", yet you do nothing to add to it?

Many writers have a hard time getting started on their "novel", the dream that is always in their heads yet never seems to make it onto paper (or computer, as the case may be). Others have no problem starting, but only get so far before they get stuck. And then it just sits, and waits... and waits... and waits...

Here's a great tip I heard from a successfully-published author (who just sold the option for movie rights for his latest novel): don't worry about writing THE novel, just write A novel.

When you take the pressure off to write THE novel, the one you've dreamed about, the one you are trying to cram EVERYTHING into and it just won't fit, and just decide to write "a" novel, a whole new world of opportunities opens up. There's no more pressure, because it's just a novel. It's not near and dear to your heart, it's not something you've put all of yourself into, it's just a novel. It's a way to get words on paper, practice writing, have fun with it and see where it takes you. And who knows, it may just end up being THE novel after all... or at least the one that gets published, anyway.

Remember, writing is supposed to be fun... isn't it?

you're very right!

I will be posting about that in a future blog, but you are oh-so-right.

As a writer once told me, "Once you finish your book, your real work begins."
