Writing our Soldiers
My brother is in the army, has been for 17 years. He is in Iraq right now. He was shipped off December 6th. He tells his wife to not watch the news or any of that because it scares her which is completely understandable when she might not hear from him for a long time and when he does get to call it's only for a few minutes. He usually can't tell her where he's at, where's he's been or where he's going so im sure that doesn't help either. It seems Iraq is the armpit of the universe from his descriptions of it.
He has his laptop with him and there are places where they can use the internet but he hasn't made it to any of those places.
The sites that let you write to these guys and gals is great. I know he gets very lonely there even with hundreds of other soldiers there it's not the same as hearing about what has happened in 'your' little world today or last week. Of course all the soldiers complain about the same thing so who would want to hear that all the time?
Give one of the 'write a soldier' sites a try, it's really a great way to show you care and let our men and woman forget THEIR problems for a few minutes.
Check out this site to get started, there is some useful info pertaining to emailing, snail mailing, finding a particular someone etc in the service. http://www.usafns.com/email.shtml
