Writing Goals: Week of 4/10-4/16/06
How's everyone doing with your writing? Are you making good progress? Are you posting your goals in a visible place so you have that daily reminder?
If you don't know where you are going, how will you get there?
Don't dismiss the importance of writing goals. Use this as a place to post your own goals or get ideas for goals you may want to reach for. Just be sure to use specific, measurable goals so you can track your progress.
Here were my goals for last week:
1. Write one to two new articles for Associated Content or other publication.
2. Write one or two more entries for the poetry contest (I can submit up to three).
3. Send an email/call my client to light a fire to get started on this book.
4. Write one to three pages for my own book.
5. Blog 3-5 times at each of my blogs.
Here's how I did:
1. I wrote one new article for Associated Content (and obviously didn't put in enough time and effort because it got rejected); no other articles
2. Did not do this yet :(
3. Waited patiently for my client after hearing how busy he was, but got an email today saying he IS getting stuff to me this week
4. Nope, didn't get it done (but I did start designing my own website and purchase the domain name, does that count??)
5. Blogged a few times, but not 3-5 times at each - too busy with the website stuff.
So, not a great week overall, but better than nothing. And I WILL do better THIS week.
Here are my goals for this week, 4/10-4/16/06:
1. Write one new article for submission, between 700-1200 words.
2. Write one 750 word entry to writing challenge, due before Thursday.
3. Transcribe author notes and begin first chapter of client's book.
4. Finish 1/3 (or more) of instructional design project.
5. Blog 3-5 times per week per blog.
6. Find host and begin setting up website (at least main page plus 2 additional pages).
7. Write 1-2 more entries in poetry contest.
8. Design 1-3 new products for cafe press.
There's probably more I should be doing but that's enough for now.
What are your goals? Share them here if you want additional accountability or write them down for yourself - you'll be glad you did.

Writing Goals for 4/10-4/16/06
Wow! It looks like you're taking on more projects. That's great. Be sure to keep us posted on how all this goes.
Last week was not too great for me either, at least in terms of articles.
These were last week's goals:
1. Edit last week's articles (2) and submit them.
2. Write one more article.
3. I will write two pages of notes this time. The last batch was really rushed, and I didn't like that.
4. This is the last week I'm putting this book on my list, and the only reason I'm doing it is because my friend wrote the book, and I wanted to review it for her.
Here's how I did:
1. I edited one of the two previous articles and submitted it. I didn't get to the second one yet.
2. I realized I needed to do a bit more research for the next article, so it's being set aside but not for long. I also managed to pull out an article I wrote quite a while ago but never did anything with. I've started doing some rewriting but it's not ready yet.
3. Two pages of notes done.
4. I finally sat down and read this book. :)
Not bad, but I was hoping to do better. This is what I've come up with for this week.
1. I will edit the article that I didn't get to last week and submit it.
2. I will finish the rewrite on the "old" article and submit that too.
3. I will write two more pages of notes for the novel.
4. I will work on obtaining the materials I need for the article I set aside.
5. I will write a short review of Christine's book.
Let's see if I can't bounce back this week. I'm not seeing very many people posting goals here. Come on guys. Accountability! ;)

That's great,
you made progress and at least worked on ALL your goals, that's definitely something to feel proud of.
Plus you completed #3 and 4 totally. Good for you!
Yes, I was actually between projects the last couple weeks, but it's picking up again. I actually have even more going on, including some website stuff that I'm doing, so this is going to be a REALLY busy week (and probably several weeks). It does seem to come in waves.
Bad news is, I sprained my neck (!), so everything is quite difficult right now and I'm going to have to rest more than usual. NOT good timing!

Ouch!

Ouch! That can't be good, especially with all that work to do, and right before the Easter holiday too. When it rains, it pours I suppose. Hang in there.

I know!
It always seems to work that way, I'll have tons of work, then very little, then tons. It's good in some ways though, I guess, because at least I get some time to recuperate in between the rush.
It's hard though to schedule a regular sitter when I don't always need one (or have the income to pay them during the downtimes). I'm hoping it will all even out soon.

Oops! GOALS!
You were right, I took on too many new projects to even remember to post the goal update email for this week! My bad. Sorry about that!!
So, how'd everyone do? It's check in time. Post your progress, and update your goals on my new blog post for this week (that I am about to write).
