Writing for my number one fan: me!

Spilling your soul on paper or electronically can be a real bitch. Your internal editor constantly holds back the creative flow while you fret over your target audience, hoping that they'll perceive your work as, in the very least, enjoyable. As a fiction writer I've tried to spin interesting tales and macarbe fantasies but often feel that they fall flat. I've cruised through dozens of writer's self help books to learn the craft and perfect it but kept missing out on the one obvious fact: if I don't enjoy it then no one will.

This finally hit home when I read a piece froma writer name WD Gaglioni whose first major novel, Wolf's Trap, comes out this month. He quite bluntly talks about what he likes and the experimentation of his writing but in all his love for the craft shines through. Other writers have said the same thing, some of my current favorites preached it, such as Laurall K. Hamilton, Bentley Little, and Stephen King, but it wasn't until Gaglioni spelled it out that it made sense. I now have a renewed purpose and drive for the art and look forward to pleasing my favorite fan; me. Thanks Bill!
