Write-at-Home Chaos

Right now I'm trying to work on a writing project for the website that I'm the editor for. As I'm typing and listening to the new Evanescence album, my son and husband are playing a chase game that involves mass quantities of screaming, and two dogs have joined in and are barking like crazy.

The phone has rung once and I've had to get up to get the kid a cup of water and put chicken in the oven.

Such is the life of a freelance writer/mom.

Sassys
before you know it their will be peace and quiet...THEN what? I kind of miss the chaos...ok, Not REALLY, just every now and then:)

Even when I have peace and quiet it's not peaceful or quiet

Even when the boy was off at preschool today and my husband was at work I still had to let dogs in and out and answer the phone three times. My house is crazy.

i feel you!

my home is chaos on wheels too. i CANNOT wait for preschool! i admire you for being able to work at all from home. i dont think i could, my son hates it when i get on the computer and is very loud in his protestations. and my phone always rings when i do have some down time....i've taken to taking it off the hook....only to make a certain friend a little annoyed at me. oh well, i need my peace! oh man, brenna, these baby girls better be mellow lil things!

I think I have no chance of having a quiet little girl.

Seriously. But it's a nice thought.

My son doesn't complain when I get on the computer, although he sometimes wants me to go to Elmo or something so he can watch and hear a story or game. Really, I don't play with him much at home, he plays alone or watches TV. My forte is going places with him, I'm always finding someplace for us to go and do something. He now says to me every morning, "Where are we going to this day mama?" I hate being stuck at home. Sometimes we visit my parents or grandma, or we go to library storytime, or to play with the trains at Barnes and Nobel, or to walk around a pet store, or to a park, or to visit with friends (all free things, yay!) or we eat at Chick fil a or the mall and play in the play areas or whatever.

For his birthday I got him chutes and ladders (the Dora edition) so that we could play that together. We've done it once and it wasn't hugely successful since he preferred dancing his Diego marker around the board rather than leaving him on his assigned space. We will try again!

I'm just not good at playing. It's my downfall in dog training too. Don't know why... I read stories, and we look at things on the computer, but I really have to force myself to play cars or play doh or whatever. Of course, I've been pregnant and feeling lousy now for a damn long time so maybe when I'm not pregnant I'll be a bit more fun.

we are 2 peas in a pod

i am the same way and have felt so bad about it, so it is refreshing to hear you be so open about not being the playful type. i get bored to be honest and my son has the attention span of a gnat anyways, so play doh, coloring, puzzles, trains, etc. are just not my forte. i take him somewhere every day too...and we were just at barnes & noble today so that he could play with the train table! LOL! he has one at home that we got for $50 with a ton of tracks and stuff from my husband's co-worker, but he gets frustrated with it and the trains end up getting thrown by him and then taken away by me.....but he will play with the B&N train table for an hour no problem....go figure.

i cant take him to eat lunch yet since he will not sit still and i'd have to chase him all around the food court, etc., but i do look forward to that. he likes going to the humane society to see the cats (he is scared of the dogs when they start barking...all at once!), we do the indoor playpark when it is cold & rainy, and the regular park when it's nice out. i should take him to the children's museum more but that place gives me ADD and is all the way across town.....and i can totally commiserate with you on being preggo and not feeling like doing much with the toddler......when i had morning sickness really bad, my kid watched TV all day long, while is at on the couch green around the gills. i felt so guilty but i honestly couldnt even get off the couch to take him to the park. and actually, my son doesnt really watch TV, and i find myself wishing he would zone out to it like i have seen other kids do. he will watch only a few minutes of something and then is off like a whirling dervish running and ranting until he finds something that occupies his attention for another 3 minutes. one good thing is that he likes being read to...and i like reading, so that works out....but again, not for too long. i am really looking forward to preschool.

It's too bad you live so far away...

If you ever move to Florida, look me up - our kids should play together!

Regarding eating in the food court - I strapped my kid into high chairs so he HAD to stay put, and I still bring toys and stuff to keep him busy. At one point I brought these containers of mini M&Ms and I would give him a couple M&Ms for every couple of bites of food he ate. Worked out, and at least he sat still long enough to eat something (he's so picky).

My son loves the trains at Barnes & Nobel too!

Preschool is good, but too short...

Hey, I'm having a little shower next weekend to get girl things. Yay!

i know!!!!

i think both our boys and ourselves would get along famously!

we made the mistake of getting really discouraged with our son flipping out at restaurants early on and stopped going out with him for a long time. now there is really only one place we go to with him and it's a local brew pub with a play area for kids (yes, there is a train table!) so after he eats he gets up and plays around there and we can actually finish our food. the other place is chuck e. cheese but i wont really count that as a restaurant! LOL!

and have fun at your shower!!!! you are gonna have so much fun with all the girlie stuff! a lady at my husband's work is throwing me one but i have no idea when....sicen the baby is due march 1st and i think she'll come early like her brother, it kinda makes scheduling a shower tricky since we have all the major holidays right around then! i already have my registry done....LOL.....and i am impatient like a crazy person, so if i had the money, i would have bought it all by now! they have come out with some really great things that they didnt have just a few years ago when our boys were infants. anyways, post and tell us how the shower goes and if you get something that you think every mom of a little girl has to have! :-)

I didn't register...

In my little group I think it's not really kosher to register, so I resorted to telling my mom what I need and she's going to tell people. Probably I'll just get a lot of clothes for her, many of which she'll wear once and outgrow :)

We eat out a lot with my son, so we've learned a lot of tricks. Those sticky table toppers that you can put their food on are so helpful! But we don't go anywhere with much of a wait for your food. And I bring a biiiiigggg diaper bag full of fun stuff.

McDonalds and Chick Fil A have play areas that he likes too. I don't go to Mickey D's much right now (have had a pregnancy repulsion to it) but Chick Fil A is very popular with everyone.

Big Lots has had an awesome bouncy seat and swing on sale. Rumor has it I'm getting both of them. A portable swing for 30 bucks? You can't knock it!
