Working the Trade Show Circuit

I've been lucky enough not to have to work trade shows as a part of my modeling career, although it's not uncommon for a lot of girls and guys to do so. Being a part of a trade show exhibit definitely seems like it would be harder than it looks!

On one of the epidsodes of "America's Most Smartest Model" they had the contestants try to talk about a car while standing next to it as it rotated slowly on a turntable-like apparatus. No thank you, not for me. I can barely walk in a straight line anymore, much less stand on a platform as it whirls me about while I try to maintain eye contact with a bunch of random people. I'm also not full of the kind of guts it takes to stand still next to a trade show display for yachts wearing nothing but a sparkly bikini. Walking on a runway is faster, and therefore painless, compared to standing still and being ogled by geriatric boating afficionados.

I give kudos to the guys & gals that make this type of work look graceful and effortless, but I never regret turning down the booking in Miami that my agency once offered me....to work at a trade show as a "mermaid" on top of a speedboat. Have mercy.
