Women in India are still a second chooser in marriage. The most emphasis is given on the likes or dislikes males. Male is given the more right by Indian society to choose or decline a female, whereas the same kind of privilege is not available for women. In most of cases women are just the puppets and most of decisions are taken by male or the parents of girl. Still in many societies in India, it is crime for a woman to choose her own husband and even some societies go up to the level of killing their daughters when she does not comply with their decisions. Mostly male goes to see a women and mostly in all the occasion they have the right to say yes or no. Many girls have to go through the humiliation of rejection by males. These kinds of discrepancies are still present in India. Education has helped in the upliftment of women. Today women are getting high posts in various government and private offices. They are choosing their own partners with dignity and pride. But the number of these women is very small; there are still many women who are not as fortunate. Even during marriages, girl’s parents have to do many personalized wedding favors towards the groom’s family. Many grooms’ families now demand that the bride’s family should come to their town. This new trend is causing lot of expense and difficulty to the families of girl. We could hope to see changes in all these cultures in near future.
