With Warner, the Cardinals Have a Chance

By re-signing quarterback Kurt Warner to a three-year deal, the Arizona Cardinals have finally put money where there big mouths have been. For many years fans of the dismal franchise have sat back waiting for the Bidwill Family (franchise owners) to invest in a winning team. After years and years of disappointment, fans can finally attest to witnessing the Cardinals make a good decision. Instead of letting Warner go and signing another free-agent quarterback, and saving a few million bucks, the Bidwill’s decided to hang on to a player who has experience winning football games…something the Cardinals have limited knowledge of since moving to the desert in 1988.

Although Warner has not played a full season in five years, due to being plagued by nagging injuries, and does not have the motor skills to get out of the way of would be sackers, he is exactly the type of player the Cardinals needed to invest in. On the field and in the locker room Warner is a leader, a leader that gets respect from teammates, coaches and fans.

The Cardinals need players like Warner to be able to make the transition from league doormat to a NFC playoff contender (I just heard you laugh, but don’t be too quick to judge). With the right off-season moves, including signing a few veteran offensive linemen, Arizona could be next season’s version of the Seattle Seahawks (again, stop laughing).

With two of the best wide receivers in the league in Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald, the No. 10 pick in this years draft (which will probably be used to acquire USC tailback LenDale White), the leagues top place kicker in Neil Rackers, and the third best defense in the NFC, Warner and the Cardinals may finally give football fans in Arizona a reason to cheer...inside a new state of the art stadium.
