And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the root. And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto Him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away. And Jesus answering saith unto them, have faith in God. -Mark ll:20-23
When the Son of Man cometh, will he find faith on the earth?
Faith is the basis of the Christian relationship with God.
If we lose out with faith, we lose out with God. The Christian life must be perfected in every area. Our faith must be perfected. Faith without works is dead. It's easy to say that you have faith, but what works do you have to show for your faith? Works, alone, will not suffice. They must be coupled with faith. Jesus cursed the fig tree because it was not producting fruit. Likewise, as Christians we must bring forth fruit. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffeing, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance. We must possess these qualities in our lives. Faith is an important fruit.
There are no levels of faith. Someone might say, "Well, I have a little faith." Either you have faith, or you don't have faith. Just as there are no "levels" of sin. In God's eyes a "little white lie" is just as offensive as mass murder. We must leave off all sin and we must have faith in God. If we profess salvation and we don't have faith in God, we are like the fig tree that Jesus cursed.
Many Christians today are not in a position to be received
by God. The question is not-- will there be church goers when the Son of Man returns? Or, will there be those professing salvation? Oh, there will be plenty of those. But, will there be faith on the earth? Fruit-producing, honest souls serving God in spirit and in truth? In Noah's day, only eight souls entered the ark. Eight of the masses! What will it be today? Man seems so far removed from God. Many claiming to know Him are not really living right before Him. Look at the way some "Christians" dress. Many times even going to the "House of the Lord."
Ever viewed some of them in action? Certainly God is grieved with this generation. Jesus is coming back, but what will He find when He returns?
