Will Rumsfeld go down without his diplomatic immunity?
The BBC reports that ex-US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld may face abuse charges in Germany for personally authorizing the illegal torture of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba and Abu Ghraib in Iraq.
The Center for Constitutional Rights, a US based group, will file the motion to prosecute on Tuesday. Apparently the way that German law works, they allow the persuit of cases originating anywhere in the world, which makes Germany a perfect place to persue this case now that Dumsfeld no longer has diplomatic immunity.
Maybe things really will change now that the GOP no longer has a stranglehold on the American political system. Hopefully this will at least put the fear of prosecution in their minds, and make them think twice before making stupid decisions. We'll see...
