Why United States only rarely interferes in Africa?
United States of America considers itself as the custodian of democracy. They cannot tolerate any totalitarian regimes. They will go to any extent to see that democracy is restored. They did it in Iraq. Now they are after Iran.
The worst totalitarian regimes and murderers of democracy exist in Africa. The classic example is the suffering of a section of Sudanese people in the Darfur region. Mass rapes and refugees are an every day story. Numerous other African nations are starving and dictators and warlords control these nations. Apart from a very bad experience in Somalia, United States is rarely interested in assuring in democratic regimes in Africa. No idea, why this double standard.
Perhaps most African nations that have dictators and warlords do not have ‘oil.’ Neither is their any economic benefit. Only worthwhile product that is available in Africa is diamond and unfortunately that does not control the world market. But oil does. The business interest of many multinational giants is closely related with oil. Occasionally we see US officials urging rebel groups in different nations to attend peace talks. Most of this urges have hidden economic agenda.
The discovery of large amount of crude oil in any of the African nation might awake United States. Then they might see the suffering of the African people. Recently, United States has shown interest in Darfur. This is because they recently learned that the oil wealth of Sudan is located in southern parts.

US in Africa
Excuse me, the US doesnt intervene?
Have you read or seen Black Hawk Down, the US was in Somalia and still is, as are Cdns.
Rwanda, the UN was supposed to be in charge...guess what, the Cdn general in charge of the UN task force BEGGED for the permission to intervene as millions were hacked to death...but the UN refused. This general later resigned from the army with severe PSTD...death and corpses were so ubiquitous that when one of his men walked into the bush for a pee, he felt the ground beneath him was soft, stepped away and realized he had been standing in a dead man's chest cavity.
When the US intervenes unilaterally, it is condemned by the world. When it cooperates with the UN, nothing happens.
Look at Europe and the ethnic cleansing...until NATA took charge, nothing happened.
cheerios
