Why Truth Can Seem Ugly

They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen. Romans 1:25

Here is part two of the great exchange. In verse 23 we read that mankind in a state of sin has "exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images". Here, we see the same motif of an exchange used with a slightly different perspective. Here, men and women are said to have "exchanged the truth of God for a lie".

There are at least three assumptions in the mind of the apostle Paul when he makes this statement. All of them fly in the face of contemporary culture, indicating that the gospel that Paul is outlining is definitely not a message that can slip easily into the counters of a secular society - or even a religious one for that matter.

Here are the assumptions:

1. There exists such a thing as truth about God.
