Why Organized Religions could be Wrong Sometimes -2
A sage who lived in the foothills of the Himalaya was an evolved soul. He Knew the secret of life, how life works and had the answers about life, birth, death, sorrow, happiness and constant bliss.
Disciples started thronging his modest cottage. They gathered peacefully to listen to his words. The sage became well known and was much sought after for imparting wisdom. His teachings became a religion.
So everyday the sage would address a gathering in the morning and evening. But a pet dog (a pup) that lived nearby would disturb the gathering. Before the sermons began the sage would ask the dog to be chained to a pole. It soon became a habit. Some or other disciple would chain the dog before the sage began speaking.
Likewise the tradition of preaching continued. After a few years the sage passed away. But his disciples continued to spread the good thoughts of the sage under the name of a religion.
The pup, now a grown up dog was tied to the pole in the same manner every day before the sermons. So the sermons continued with the ritual of the dog being tied to the pole first.
The teachings of the sage were followed by people all over. His sayings were discussed by his disciples. And everytime there was a gathering in the name of that religion, a dog was chained to a pole.
Later on it became mandatory for the disciples to chain a dog first before the preachings started. Here we see how a simple habit which is not a part of the sage's wonderful teachings became a part of that religion.
