Why I Spent My Birthday in the ER

I don;t believe in coincidences. I am a firm believer in that everything happens for a reason. Two years ago, I heard about Nip/Tuck on the radio. It was a commercial. It stuck in my head and I decided to watch it. i became hooked. Every week, I would try to put the kids to bed...so that I could watch Nip/Tuck in peace.

June 13th was my birthday. It is also my niece's birthday! My father had given me money for my birthday and I decided to buy a wrought iron gazebo I had been admiring fro some time. The plan was I was going to put it togehter and then drive to the city. That was the plan, but it didn't work out that way. While I was putting it togehter, it fell lacerating The Princess' face. I still have a hard time because it is an ugly picture that keeps repeating over and over in my mind. All I keep thinking is it could have killed or The Little One. It just missed her eye.

My first instant was to grab her and pray fervently. I was at home alone with my oldest. I told her to get the phone and called 911. The worst part was that the chairs were not in the mini-van. I had removed them to put the patio set and gazebo (unassembled) in the car. The paramedics had to help me put them in.

I followed the ambulance to the ER. I cried all the way. I called my tow closest friends. I'm glad that I followed my friend's advice. She told me not to let anyone touch her face. She told me to state that I wanted her to be seen by a plastic surgeon. When I arrived at the ER, she was seen immediately. I was adamant about seeing a surgeon and I was successful. Although he wasn't in the network, he accepted her as his patient. I was heartbroekn that her face had been scarred for life.

If I hadn't been watching Nip/Tuck regularly, I probably wouldn't have been able to handle what came next. I had to hold my daughter while he performed the cosmetic surgery. I kept thinking she would never model again. How would this heal? I couldn't see it happening. He was gentle, but quick. Can I tell you, it healed beautifully. It has made a believer out of me. She has a small, but you would never guess that it was lacerated. It looks like a scratch.

People can say whatever they want. I know plastic surgery really does work and I thank God that it is as advanced as it is. Had it not been, who knows how the Princess would have been treated? If you want to see before and after pictures of individuals that have received cosmetic surgery visit this New jersey plastic surgery. Seeing is believing! The thing a lot of people

The thing a lot of people lose sight of is that plastic surgery isn't just about making already beautiful people look more beautiful.

My daughter fell when she was very little. The carseat had come in from my mom's car, but not been transferred over to my car yet. My daughter was walking behind me, doing this goofy walk, where she held her head up in the air and waved it around. Honestly, she was so young that she was still perfecting walking, and she tripped and fell, hitting her lip on the underside of the car seat. It cut her upper lip in two, and extended past the "vermillion border." There was no question that we would see a plastic surgeon. With facial cuts, and especially facial cuts on chidren, there is usually little need to demand it. Usually. Anyway, the surgeon we got is top notch. She specializes in children's facial surgery. You can still see a scar if you look, and to someone who doesn't know what happened, it looks like she might have had a cleft palate. I am certain that she will want some scar revision when she gets a little older. Because of the scar, her lip has a line where the skin is discolored. I am prepared to take her to a tattoo artist to have them blend the color. I joke that I took my daughter to her first plastic surgeon, and that I'd might as well take her to get her first tattoo.

I know EXACTLY what you mean. I still have that image of my little girl, smiling at me with a bloodied lip, burned into my mind. And it still sends chills down my spine years later. But she's ok. Just as your daughter will be.

(And slightly off topic, how good is Nip/Tuck this season?!? It's my next blog.)
