Why do people have the wrong view of Christians?

christianity | God | heaven | Jesus | Praise | prayer | Religion | salvation | worship

I don't understand why people views Christians in the light that they do.

Alot of people have this idea that anyone that is a Christian is boring, unimaginative, and just someone to ridicule.

I am a Christian, and I'm not that way. I think I'm a lot of fun, and I think I have a great sense of humor. I don't walk around with my head hung down, muttering words of doom. I don't try to force anyone into being a Christian.

I have a proper fear of the lord. When I say this, I mean that I realize he's there, and as a Christian, I do need to maintain a certain way of life. I try to do the right thing.

Really, the bible isn't asking us to live like nuns. It's telling us to not steal, lie, cheat, etc. What's wrong with that? Why should a person be made fun of or ridiculed for this?

Christian Citizens appear to be different from

Christian missionaries. If citizens stop financing Christian Missionaries trying to convert people and make the entire Earth only the Christ's Kingdom, the wrong view will retard. This Earth is God's kingdom not Christ's kingdom. The God can be called by any name including Yehova, Alla, Vishnu, Buddha, Zarasutra etc.

Proselytization and Ignorance

Proselytizing everyone is a big problem, but the thing is that the Bible promotes that. The other problem is myopic ignorance. I saw a guy on a TV show talking about religion and he said, "Jesus said either believe in me or GO TO HELL!" Jesus never said anything like that, nor would he.

The Bible and Christianity contain good messages which I think everyone can benefit from hearing and (hopefully) following, but I do not think that they are going to Hell just because they do not, and I think a lot of Christians should calm down on that, and several other, points. Mainstream Christians are notoriously judgemental and intolerant, but we are not all like that.

There's a difference, angelface ...

... between being a Christian and preaching it. Most Christians, I think, including the mainstream ones, try to live it without making a big deal about it. But there are many others who like to proclaim it. Gives them their jollies, I suppose. Trouble is, when they do, they open themselves to contradictions, to detected hypocrisies. And since they themselves have got all the press, their failings get the same press. And then are projected on the rest of the "people of faith".

It's the same for Judaism, Islam, Buddhism ... But since both Christianity and Islam began life as persecuted minorities (Christians as a forcibly-excluded sect of Judaism - most of the "anti-Pharisee" diatribes in the Gospels date from this schism, and are likely NOT out of the mouth of Jesus himself - and Islam as a monotheistic cult in a polytheistic culture), the sense of self-justification is perhaps stronger in these faiths than in others.

There's a reason why Jesus told his disciples not to pray in public.
