Why do people "do" drugs?

I don't understand why people play with and "do" drugs that are dangerous. I guess I can understand the idea that one "feels" better - as a smoker in the past I probably though I felt a little better by smoking. I do think though it was the pressure to do what everyone else was doing. My smoking days were well over 30 years ago.

I do like alcohol - though I hate drinking too much as any eurphoria is quickly passed and the dizziness is very difficult to cope with.

If that is what happens when doing the new designer drugs, "ice" etc, I just don't understand it.

It is well documented that many people become addicted - and the downward spiral is well known. I can never understand why they do it.

I think many people are

I think many people are purposely self-destructive because they are unhappy.

There have also been studies done to show that many drug users actually have allergies and mental disorders that affect their choices, behaviour, moods, and self-destructive tendencies.

I know that with alcohol especially, a very high percentage of them have food allergies, often including grains. Because you become addicted to the allergen, they can almost immediately become alcoholics.

Also, I think there are social pressures (like at raves, to do ecstasy) and some drugs are rumoured to be "safe" - like marijuana and ecstasy.

Then there's that whole invincible teen thing...
