Why do I Live in Wisconsin? SNOW DAYS!

Sometimes during the winter I wonder why I live in Wisconsin. The winter can be long, cold, and boring. Cabin fever abounds as well as flu and influenza. But, nothing can break the bonds of the winter blues like a SNOW DAY!

This morning the alarm went off at the usual 5:30. I hit the snooze button and the radio on button at the same time. I knew there was a chance that school could be delayed or best yet cancelled. The first school I heard was mine, then my kids', then finally my husband's. My husband and I are both teachers at different schools and our two daughters go to school in yet another district. I don't think we have ever all had a snow day together. I woke up kid #1. I expected to hear a sleepy "Huh? O.K." Instead the reply I got was "Yes!!" and she promptly went back to sleep. Kid #2's reply was "Yeah, all right" and she went back to sleep too.

It was the perfect day. We all slept in, we at a breakfast of bacon, eggs, toast and coffee. During the week, we're usually too rushed to eat a big breakfast. I baked cookies, cleaned and even wrote in my blog. Time is such a precious gift.

Tomorrow it's back to school, provided everyone gets plowed out. We live in the country and the blowing and drifting snow can be pretty deep. Even though we have to make up the day at the end of the year, there's nothing like a snow day!

Neighborly love~

Have you ever tried to shovel snow with a 6 inch wide gravel shovel?

Don't do it.

Someone has hidden my snow shovel, and other than a lovely assortment of kitchen spatulas and lawn/garden spades, I'm stuck with that lovely piece o' crap.

Six inch wide trails in 12 inch high drifts will make you heave that shovel like missing a 10 inch putt and throwing your club. I gotta go across the street and retrieve it from the vacant lot here shortly.

I oughta lay into you, Miss Wisconsin, for sending your left over snow over here to Iowa. hohoho~
