Who said Iran never attacked the US???!!! Remember the Revolution, remember the poor American hostages ?

Submitted by Thorniest Rose on May 22, 2006 - 6:27pm.

Need I remind all you Americans that Iran has indeed attacked the US many times?

Most notably and easily validated is the 1978 (yr?) revolution during which the US Embassy was taken over by a mob, and the Americans there were held hostage for more than one year?

Dont do them a disservice by painting poor little Iran as a "third world" country when, in fact, it has developed nukes on its own and when, in fact, it has national wealth and resources rivalling many Western nations as well as thriving industries and economy. Iran is one of those places where a woman risks injury, insult, possibly death, for venturing out into the streets without either a male companion and/or proper attire (no earlobes showing!)

And lets not forget the multiple terrorist attacks which are encouraged, funded, supported, and promoted by Iran, which have killed Americans, Israelis, and other nationals all over the world.

I suppose it makes no difference that Iran still has some beefs with Iraq (a country without defence, let alone nukes) and wouldnt hesitate to use agression against it.

I suppose it also doesnt matter or ruin Iran's position among you that it categorically declares its intentions to obliterate Israel and to kill all Jews. If you think they would do this as a favour to the Palestinians, think again. They would do this to establish supremacy in the Muslim world - which by the way numbers almost one BILLION people. They must eradicate the 3 million Jews in Israel because we are such a horrible, powerful threat?

And they wouldnt mind it if the palestinians, whom they hate, were wiped out too!

Read the sermons and articles and youll have to agree.

The year was 1979.

To my knowledge, Iran has not had nukes. It has had a large military establishment, developed under the American-supported government of Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi, an absolute monarchy famous for one of the most ruthless and feared secret police units since the Gestapo. It was the brutal repression of its own citizens by this overtly American-supported government that spawned the Islamic revolution, and subsequent anti-American sentiment, in Iran. One does have to be most careful about releasing chickens, because they do come home to roost.

Before you let us hear any more about the "Muslim threat", please become aware that Iranian Muslims differ by heritage (non-Arabic) and sect (Shi'ite) from most other Muslims (Arabic or Turkic, and Sunni) in the Middle East. Two facts that have historically poisoned all attempts at concerted action by Middle Eastern Muslims ever since the collapse of the Ottoman Empire in 1918, and would continue to work against such attempts if We the People would only stop being idiots and giving them common cause.

Also, before you let us hear any more about poor little Israel, please read The Birth of Israel: Myths and Realities by the Polish Zionist, political insider, and revisionist historian Simha Flapan. Their chickens are coming home to roost too.

which it is.

I presume you're justifying the hostage situation because the shah was so bad. as if the current administration is wonderful and not at all "ruthless." Thats a joke.

And I know all about Persian vs Arab, I understand several dialects of Arabic, btw, and farsi is not it.
I know they cant get along. They cant get along with each other from village to village, let alone culture to culture (if you've ever lived among Arab Muslims, you'll know thats true).

The fact is that Iran has publicly stated many times but its elected leader no less that Israel should be wiped off the map. That all the jews should be killed.

Have a gander at Tehrantimes.org maybe com, cant remember, and Memri.org for verified and accurate translations of selected clips from the Arab press inthe Mid East, the stuff they dont say in English.

Have a look at Saudi Arabian elementary school textbooks now, AFTER they are claimed to have been edited to remove anti-semitic stuff and youll read how evil, devious, dirty, blood sucking, money-grubbing the "Jew" is, every year, Arabian children are taught IN SCHOOL that jews should be killed. How do you accept that shit?

And to justify the total state-sanctioned subversion of any civil rights for women in the name of CULTURe makes me puke (not that youve done that).

And one other thing - you dont see jews or evil zionists rioting and destrying, as well as attacking the governments of their adopted countries - ALL OVER THE WORLD. No, everywhere, it's Muslims. Yet you only focus on the "crimes" of israel while ignoring the elephants called "ethnic cleansing" in Europe, and now Darfuf and the Congo (in Darfur its Black Muslims slaughtered in their own Holocaust by Arab Muslims - their coreligionists!!)
Consider that in Chechnya,in the Phillipines, in France, in other countries in Europe, in Bali, in the US, as well as in Arab countries such as Egypt and Jordan, you have Muslims committing TERROR and indiscriminately murdering innocents. Wake up, man. Check your priorities and your numbers.
Take a look at honestreporting dot com while you're at it.
Nobody is evil. Muslims aren't evil. But they do have - at least now - a culture that breeds suicide bombers. Where else do you see this in the civilized world. Dont tell me its the "brutal" israeli occupation when this happens everywhere.
And left to themselves, their nations stagnate, the women have no rights, their billions are spent on golden palaces. when was the last time you heard about a scientific discovery coming from any of those countries? these dictatorships and monarchies are not breeding forward-thinking peace-loving folks who aspire to going to the moon. that happens in the west, like it or not.

... and a full reply will take much more time and energy than I can spare, with two instrument installers downstairs waiting for me.

I will only point out, for now, that those who would criticize their neighbors do well to examine themselves first. "You phony! First take the 2x4 out of your own eye, then you will see well enough to take the splinter out of your neighbor's." The record of Christians is not altogether wonderful in this regard.

And I do believe that the first suicide bombers in the Middle East post-WWII were members of the IRGUN, the Zionist terrorist organization. Headed by Menachim Begin, later to be a Prime Minister of Israel.

have nukes? That Iran is a peaceful country (lets not mention the Iraq-Iran war, I guess you blame that on the zionists? Its amazing how seemingly intelligent people have slanted views...
So, answer that one, please? Or is that too simplistic a question? That was the point of the blog, to indicate that we should all take statements and racism declared by a leader of 70 MILLION people who do not have free speech, freedom of movemet, of dress, or of the press, very seriously indeed.
I suppose you think he's just posturing and it's all colourfully cultural?

... when America was in the midst of its territorial expansion, fueled by the Manifest Destiny ethic ("The continent is ours"), and believed itself to be "the great experiment in Freedom and Democracy", opponents (ironically, mostly drawn from hyper-religious groups), especially of the Mexican War (a conflict similar in its inspration and objective to the current Iraq war, the Alamo be damned) and of "filibustering" expeditions to Cuba and Nicaragua, pointed out the damned gall of the myth of Republican Freedom in the world's largest slaveholding nation. Especially since one of the outcomes of American incursions into both Texas and Nicaragua was the re-establishment of slavery into territory where it had been abolished.

Those who believe themselves to be Right need to take particular care that they in fact are Right.

You phony! First take the 2x4 out of your own eye. Then you will see well enough to take the sliver out of your friend's eye.

some British checkpoints and centres which were bombed, and Im sure you know about the Liberty, BUT most of the fighting was against the Arabs. My mom lived in Haifa at the time and couldnt get home one night...fierce fighting from neighbourhood to neighbourhood, people who had been neighbours for years...my uncle was kidnapped with his cousin (they were teens at the time) and held in a well for three weeks...he returned alive but with all his hair having turned white.
There are many stories which never make it to any media, mainstream or otherwise, I'd be glad to educate you further.
cheers

I was in Israel in 1973, After the Yom Kippur war, fuel prices in the US rose from 21 cents a gallon to $1.00 and there were long lines. From what I understand there was NO oil shortage then or now. Iran sold oil to Israel. What in the world is going on? & Why can't everyone just live in peace? It's time to call for a world truce and let people just live and let live and raise their families in peace and harmony. Why does ANYONE have the right to take another person's life or property? WHAT'S WRONG WITH PEOPLE?

the poet laureate penning lyrical wishful verse, the country singing songs of peace
Hinei ba ha shalom...the elaborate celebrations and gifts to sadat in jerusalem, the happy validation we all felt that finally, our enemies might become our friends, they will stop trying to kill us and we will all thrive, be enriched culturally etc. but the israelis didnt realize that most of the population in egypt had not evolved as much as sadat, and that the peace was extremely cold, in fact as cold as nazi germany
while in Egypt the angry mobs rioted and finally assasinated the most progressive and intelligent leader they ever had. there was no threat for egypt to make peace with israel, no grievances. sinai was returned in better shape and worth more than it was before, a huge expanse of oil-rich desert which israel gladly gave up, despite the populace's attachment to it and the tourist dollars it provided, they gave it back and hoped for peace.
israel honours the agreements, there is no hate propaganda of egypt in the free israeli press, no evil depictions of arabs in our storybooks, yet in Egypt to this day, the "free press" only prints govt-sanctioned op eds and news, the mosques blare hatred and jihad, and the people in cafes recount exagerated tales of zionist crimes...the moderates, the educated, the smart ones, are in exile, they write passionate intelligent lamentations for their country, so capable of such glory and culture, reduced to an angry crazy mob. again, i suppose its israel's fault? after israel, egypt receives the most monetary aid of any country from the us, so you cant say theres no help, and egypt is a strong trade partner with the immense market that is the arab mid east, israel is barred from most business developments,
israel's free democracy and press ensure a judicious and accountable govt, its industries provide innovations in computer technology, medicine, agriculture, etc, its populace live under threat of immineent death but party hard and have a joyous love of life, respect for diversity, and ability to learn. the entire mideast arab world is oppressed and denied access to free iformation, free thought, and discussion, how can anyone compare?
