Which Race We Talking About?

clinton | djbtol | Eight Belles | kentucky derby

She was the only female running in the race. She poured every ounce of her being into this race - running her heart out. But, alas, she came in second. She finished with head held high, but she was quite injured and subsequently euthanized on the track.

I'm talking about Eight Belles, of course, and the Kentucky Derby. You know, the horse Hillary put her money on.

Yeah, I told my husband

Yeah, I told my husband about it right after I heard. But the rest of the story is that one of the three horses Obama picked won. That race was so loaded up with metaphors...

Just FYI,

I was laughing about the odd happenstance of Hillary's horse coming in second and then having to be put down. I was in no way laughing about Eight Belles' fate. I'm actually pretty sick about that but that's another topic.

I can't speak for anyone else,

but I figured that. I don't think there's anyone out there that's laughing about what happened to Eight Belles.

Yes, it is

intriguing when compared to the campaign. And in real life it is so bizarre. Why does a horse break two ankles at the end of the race? Euthansia on the track? Wow.

What happened to Eight Belles stunned me, especially

since it happened after she crossed the finish line. I can't even begin to imagine how that happened. Weak ankles that she came down on too hard as the jockey was reining her in? Did she somehow land on them wrong? That's just wild and I'm looking forward to hearing whether they do an investigation as to how it happened.

Unfortunately, there was no way for her to recover from an injury like that. You can't keep a horse laying down for any length of time - it damages their internal organs or something like that - and there would have been no way for them to keep her hanging in a harness for the length of time it would have taken her to heal. Euthanasia really was the only option - and the sooner the kinder. Poor thing.
