Where are you "Bread Pudding" or Cake?
I know a blog is generally in the form of a statement or a story but this blog is a plea for help.
When I was very young my mother used to make something which we called "bread pudding". It was not a traditional bread pudding where you use bread soaked in water. It used both breadcrumbs and flour, dried fruit, I believe it also had eggs and milk in it and probably spices, maybe cinnamon, ground cloves and the method was similar to that of a cake mixture. It was wonderful and we loved it.
My mother however has lost the recipe and cannot really remember it, after all I am talking about 45 years ago!!!! She thinks that it was a wartime cake recipe, possibly from an old ministry of food booklet which had been issued during the Second World War to encourage people not to waste food. I think it may possibly have been a Marguerite Patten recipe.
My question is does anyone Know what I'm talking about, do you have the recipe? Or know where I can find it? I have done a websearch to no avail at all.
Please help, I can still taste this cake forty five years later. My mother used to bake it in the biggest meat tin that she had because we loved it so much. I can remember the incredible joy if we came in from school and could smell the "pudden" cooking.
