When I move out

pchan33's picture

Disclaimer: This is me venting. I appreciate my parents and I love them. Enough with the "reality check" comments already. I already KNOW there are people in the world WAY worse off than me, but sometimes people need to let off steam. If that makes me a bitch, I'm okay with that. If you don't like it, then don't read my article.

I am shivering, yet there is sweat dripping down my ribcage. When I move out, I will be able to put the thermostat on warm, so this "cold sweat" nonsense will never happen. My parents walk around all hunched over like 80-year-olds, because my dad refuses to use the heat in our house. He is not poor by any means, just cheap. I can't wait to be able to take a bath and run the water FOR AS LONG AS I WANT TO!

When I move out, I will have my own computer, so my clueless dad can't slow it down with the crap he has on our ancient computer, such as: pointless network password that I can click right by, "Dont Panic" (as if I have anything to hide), Various firewalls that take a LONG time to load, auto update/easy update, which takes even more time to click past, and spyware. Arg! It should not take an hour to check my effing email.

I will be able to spend my days off relaxing, instead of hearing my mom reminding me to windex my bathroom mirror. I am not a slob by any means, and I hate being told what to do.

I will be able to spend time by myself without my mom asking me if something is wrong 1000 times.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate that I get to live in a big-ass house for free, but my parents annoy me sometimes.

It will probably be atleast another year or so before I move out, since I am paying for college and I'm currently in debt up to my eyeballs, but I cannot stand the wait.

It sounds like it's time !

It sounds like it's almost time...I say almost, because while you have obviously come very close to figuring out who you are becoming, you have not yet reached the full stage of real maturity, and that is reached when you are able to not only identify how you are different than your parents, and are ready to leave, but also how some of what they are doing and saying, and how they live might have some reasons. But even if they are completely pig-headed about some things, as we get older, we sometimes find ourselves becoming like them. Don't worry- you have a lot of time.

Being ready to move out is a two-fold process. First, you draw the line in the sand, then- you need to communicate the level of maturity that shows love and respect, and appreciation for differences, even when you completely disagree.

Your post is funny, and sounds like many teenager's angst.

... or maybe not (re: when I move out)

When I move out, I will be able to put the thermostat on warm
take a bath and run the water FOR AS LONG AS I WANT TO!

Lovely fantasies - which will last just long enough for the heat and water bills to arrive and present you with a stiff wedgie.

I will be able to spend my days off relaxing, instead of hearing my mom reminding me to windex my bathroom mirror.

Yep - until the ants and mice start taking over the place. You think you're clean, the bugs know the truth. I was once told by one old enough to know better that the bedroom didn't need to be cleaned and no I wasn't allowed to do it either or I'd have hell to pay. It was the landlord who made us pay, for the maggots under the bed. True story, dammit.

but my parents annoy me sometimes.

Sounds like the sentiments may be mutual. Have you ever asked your parents to go over the household budget with you, so that you know where funds are going and you'll begin to have an appreciation for what you'll be hit with when you do leave, dragging those college duns behind you? If your parents are unwilling, shame on them - but I'm guessing they'll welcome the ask as a sign of recognition of the world as it is, and your willingness to develop the skills to cope.

Greetings from your friendly neighborhood killjoy (father of two grown daughters).

re: oh my (when I move out)

Well, biology is my business, I've seen lots worse so I wasn't too grossed out. But I was plenty pissed.

Imagine a country with a billion people in it

Last year I was in India.

That's a country that is, roughly, one third the size of the USA. The population of India has exceeded one billion people and that, i believe, is more than 3 times the population of the USA.

Just try to imagine how crowded it is there..............

I visited one good friend of mine there. He is 23 years old and he is studying to get a masters degree in sanskrit.

He and his mother and father live in a one story apartment that consists of a 30 square foot living room and a 20 sqaure foot kitchen. That's it. For all of them.

At night they all roll out mats and sleep on the floor.

I asked my friend if that limited amount of space in their apartment was enough for him.

He barely even understood the question as he wasn't much able to envision anything larger.

He assured me that the space was fine.

After all, he simply doesn't know that other options even exist.

So thank your lucky stars that you are one of the exceedingly and amazingly few people on this earth that has as much private space as you currently have;

and some more appreciation for those who have provided you with such a huge amount of space and comfort is clearly in order,

my advice:

get a reality check..................

obviously you did not read the bottom of my entry where I explained how much I appreciate living at home for free and that I was just venting.

Dreams Matter.
