When did taking a vacation turn into a major crisis?

People are so obsessed with making everybody happy that their entire vacation is no longer fun, but more like a job. Your job throughout the entire vacation is making sure you see everyone you know in a 5-day time period all while worrying that you aren’t spending enough time with each person and seeing how you can squeeze them in for a lunch or breakfast later in the week before you leave to go home. So where is the actual vacation throughout this time? On the airplane? In the rental car to the hotel?

Granted, the main reason friends visit here is to see friends and family – or go to the beach (there’s not much else). But it shouldn’t be a chore to make sure everyone is happy. These people knew months in advance that you were coming. If they have to work, they have to work. If they have an important engagement, then they have an important engagement. But do NOT stress yourself out if they don’t see you. It doesn’t mean that your vacation “sucked
