Whatever happened to the Christmas Club at the bank?

Does anyone remember the Christmas Club?

As a little girl, I can remember my grandmother going to the bank once a week with several booklets. They would stamp each booklet and tear a sheet out. It was the Christmas Club.

She would use that money at the end of the year to buy Christmas gifts, which in her case was an envelope with money. She even had me to do a Christmas Club one time, which I think was $5.00 a week.

But I've noticed that banks don't do that anymore, at least where I live. It was really a good idea. You go weekly and pay a little and get it all back at the end of the year.

Times have changed so much. Not just with the bank, but everywhere.

actually...

It depends on your bank. My bank used to have that where it was a savings account. You had to add at least monthly and it was automatic from your checking account. At the end of Oct I got the money put in my checking account. When they got bought out that changed. i can still take the money out and have it automatically put in from my checking. i do weekly transfers and never see the money. I actually have two funds for that. one is Christmas and the other a vacation fund. I can't afford much but it helps for both so I don't have to spend too much more and some years I don't at all. Because the money is automatically transfered I get a better interest rate too. it's not much more but that little bit helps. Check with your own bank because even if they don't call it that, you can make your own Christmas Club.
