What would you do if an average of EIGHTY rockets a month kept landing on your town??

If 80 Rockets Per Month Landed on Your Town What

If 80 rockets pre month landed on your town, on your kids' school, your monuments, your businesses, parks, and buildings of worship, what would you do?

That's what the citizens of Sderot in Southern Israel experience and it is so commonplace the media - right wing, left wing, alternative, all of them in the freer world - barely report them, if they do, they refer to the very deadly but inaccurate rockets as "homemade."

Hey, they are not cookies. Qassam rockets are typical of terrorist methods in that they fall willy nilly (targeting is an alien concept and the word precision not in terrorists' vocabularies, anyway they want to kill by quantity not quality). Qassams can still damage the inadvertent, civilian targets and certainly traumatize the children and more sensitive adults in the town. Plus they have caused more than a few fatalities.

Like suicide bombings, the Qassams traumatize the population and kill innocents.

Islamic Jihad claims responsibility for these provocations. What is the difference between this group, Hamas, Hizbollah, the original PLO, the and the PFLP? All the groups have the same goals and methods. And their success is measured out in dead civilians and "unprovoked, heavy-handed" Israeli military agression. The media claim "retaliation" as if the IDF want to discipline the terrorists or avenge their dead. NOT TRUE. Every IDF action is meant to protect Israel from FUTURE tragedy. Get that into your head, all you journalists.

I am sorry for the Palestinians. They not only experience too much death and war, but even at peace they are in misery and constant exhortation to violence. Their leaders, their advocates, their brethren, and none of their obsenely wealthy supporters ever help them. Instead they sacrifice them and their dream of a state in exchange for some short-lived glory, power, and money. They have been most exploited by their own.

Everyone knows that if there were no attacks, there would be no retaliation. Israel does not invade for no reason. Israel would rather let its exhausted military rest in a peaceful environment for a change.

But what can it do when the citizens are awakened at night, when children at school are murdered? What would your government do? Would it negotiate?

So Israel sends airstrikes into Gaza, sometimes with pinpoint accuracy killing the terrorists and bombing their factories, sometimes mistakenly killing innocents (although when the entire culture is so immersed in hate, only the young and infirm can truly be called innocent) in retaliation and the media make it sound as if Israel is crushing the population while barely suffering at all.

For one thing, the populace in Israel feels true remorse, guilt, and sympathy when innocents are killed. They launch inquiries, allow independent inspectors, compensate the survivors, and the leads of state, of all the diverse political factions in the land, issue official apologies.

The media in Israel go wild, as wild as the media in the States over Bush. The democratic and free society of Israel has numerous groups and factions screaming for an end to bloodshed, for an end to the IDF, for utmost truth, as they should. There are no such groups or voices on the other side, whose mainstream media glorify in any Jewish death, who justify 911 if done by Arabs but revile it when they make the absurd claim "evil Zionists" were the perpetrators. There are Israeli humanitarian organizations in Gaza, human rights groups in Israel who are quicker to attack the morality and methods of defence than the most deranged anti-semite, demand resignation of the highest officials in the land, and condemn all military action.

Yet all that is never enough to convince the world of Israel's "right to exist" or even its right to defend its citizens.

The world continues to view Israel as agressive, cruel, even murderous.

Only Israel is criticized for defending itself yet it is THE ONLY country on Earth which continuously faces clear and true possiblity of complete annihialation. It is the only place which faces disproportionate numbers of enemies which perpetuate hate in their mainstream media and teach their children to kill, kill, kill you so that they can go to heaven. I love the absurdity of that one.

So please remember every time you hear of an Israeli incursion into a Palestinian territory, remember it is not done out of the blue but to prevent terror in Israel, the latest example of which you may not even be aware.

If you're not interested in the truth, then shut up.

Now, back to Gaza, which daily launches deadly rockets into a town of civilians, Sderot, and I ask all of you, fellow bloggers, readers, and I bet you to answer...what do you think YOUR government would do if, for several years, your town experienced deadly rocket attacks at all hours of the day and night at the average rate of 80 per month. What would you be advocating or demanding if Vancouver launched 80 rockets per month on Seattle?? Or if Paris did that to London?

We already know it only takes three. It would have only taken one.

Observant Americans would have taken note of the waves of international sympathy and good will that came America's way in the aftermath of 9/11. America had the chance at that point to forebear, to enlist international aid in the quest to quell Al Qaeda style terrorism, to build the relationships that would have addressed both the event and its causes, capitalizing on the idea that America has too many good things to provide to the world to permit this sort of behavior.

What did we do instead? Throw jets and cruise missiles at everyone and everything. Setting ourselves squarely on the path to becoming a pariah state which will need to crush itself with its military expenditures in its desperate attempts to keep itself from falling.

It's a cliché, but clichés are clichés because they contain a nugget of truth. "They that live by the sword shall die by the sword".

THE ONLY country on Earth which continuously faces clear and true possibility of complete annihilation.

Darfur?

And as for truth: have you read Flapan's book yet? Just sayin' ...

Afghanistan. All agreed, many participated. Even then liberal cda, italy, spain until they knuckled under after the madrid bombings, unbelievable
And I would have spun justification for the war on Iraq in other, more alarming terms - world economy and ecoterrorism. Daily human rights abuses on his citizenry on the scale of Idi Amin, kidnapping, rape and murder of young girls by the saddam sons with utter impunity (Caligula-style absurd unpredictability and total power over life and death of innocents, unrestrained brutatily, etc. There are roomfuls of documents, secretly videotaped grand moments, true films of brutal torture and mass slaughter in iraqi prisons, horrors inflicted on iranian pows, and as we all know, the gassings of the Kurds. Proof that he DID have WMD, yes depleted inthe 80s and gulf war one BUT easy, cheap, and undetectable collection of wmd. yes we know his scuds were duds, but he spent the ten years between the two gulf wars restocking and rebuilding, siphoning money meant for infant nutrition to purchase materials and pay Chemical Ali his salary.

Islamic terrorism, can we say, is totally a self de fensive outrage, or at least warranted by a feeling of insecurity?

so twice a day, often three times a day, the entire city and surrounding areas, the human and animal inhabitants thereof, and especially kids, are traumatized by sirens wailing for fifteen seconds until the rocket impacts, sending all scrambling out of beds, classrooms, work places, etc to safer locations and bomb shelters.

The media portray the affluent villas and lush gardens, as if such idyll can erase the rockets. Rather the terror in the midst of home, killings and violence for all people, damages victim and killer alike, and condemns both to trauma and hate.
It has got to be the most counter-productive STUPID method of trying to get what you want.

Who can have ANY Compassion or Respect for violence?
How can Hamas or ANY violent muslim organization expect the world to sympathize with their cause when they resort to violence? Remember Martin Luther King? Most of the marches he led were for the benefits of Americans who had suffered in terrible poverty, were abused, lived in fear of ignorant idiots like the KKK, and although there was violence (usually against him and his workers) he brought about change in the world by of peaceful demonstration.
When there is a struggle and the wrongs are exposed, pressure will be brought by the conscience and empathy of the world.

Muslims are TURNING people AGAINST their cause. The word Muslim is becoming synonomous with violence and no one has empathy for that. We all know there are good, honest hard working Muslims but the ones causing the problems make it hard on everyone.
If Islamic terrorist want change then they need to change their tactics!

noted intellectual, praised the culture of suicide bombing as being noble but explained to the pals they must stop it, not because of the disgusting murders and needless carnage, leaving survivors worse off than the dead, yes, they must stop suicide bombings ONLY because it was not good pr and the west did not understand the noble heroism of the act, the parent's sacrifice etc., and that the weak westerners would sympathize more with israel.

as for good feeling after 911, ocaelliegh, I know, and when Israel faces war on all sides, everyone sympathizes, when israelis don gas masks instead of justifiably blasting saddam to pieces during the first gulf war (an act which would have saved many lives, civilian iraqis as well as americans and would have precluded the need for the second gulf war nbut I digress(
everyone loves the underdog
sorry but jews dont want to be pitied and left to die, its been done too often
the strong israeli is the new image of the jew, not the bleating sheep sent to gas chambers in the forties, ok?
why do you want sympathy for the us? sympathy gets you nowhere.

I thank God from time to time that I, in America, have thus far been spared from war and it's inclusions.
My thought is that we need a new world agency, stronger than the United Nations, to address the problems in the east.
