What to do with the building??

I have trying to think of things to put in my retail space of my building that would be a good fit for the space. I'm thinking it has to be some kind of entertainment facility. My town has no place where a kid can have a party, or where teens can hang out. There isn't even a McDonald's, and the Burger King has no playground. The movie theatre is good for the teens, but it is only open for one movie a night during the week, and two shows on weekends. The closest thing we have to an entertainment facility is a pizza parlor that has machines where you drop a quarter in and get a rubber bouncy ball.

First I considered an arcade. I am worried that this will be too much noise for the restaurant next door though. Also, they are very expensive to start. Each machine runs an average of two thousand dollars USED, and I have a lot of space to fill. Plus, the basement could be used to make it a larger facility, but it is not handicap accessible.

Next I thought about mini golf. I cannot convince my husband that mini golf is making a return to popularity. Also, a course can be expensive, and although I have a very large space to work with, it's not quite large enough for mini golf unless you add the basement into the figures, and then there's still the problem of handicap accessibility.

Next I considered lazer tag. The problem with this is that the space has a very large open window that shines a lot of light into the place. It would have to be blacked out, and frankly, that doesn't do a lot for my property value. I could put at least part of it in the basement, and because it is a more physical sport I wouldn't have to be concerned as much with accessibility issues, but the problem is that the ceilings are low, so there is no way to do a proper obstacles, and certainly no way to do different levels for play.

My final idea is one I've thought about recently. Paintball. Because of the area where I live, a lot of teens already have paintball guns I'm sure. This means I won't have to keep as many on hand, which means I can get a few cheap paintball supplies and those who already have their own can use theirs. The accessibility issues are still less of a worry, and the obstacles do not need to be as involved as they would for lazer tag. Furthermore, I don't need to fix up the area in terms of new carpet or drywall, which I would for other type businesses. Plus, with paintballs getting safer and safer to use, and the requirements of proper gear, I am not concerned at all about liability issues. I would probably do the paintball in the basement, because it would not interfere with the operation of the restaurant as far as the noise, and I could use the top floor for an arcade so that younger children have a place to have birthday parties. Start the top with a bunch of tables at the back, and some generic claw machines and video kiddie rides up front. Then, as I get more money from the paintball below, I have more space to expand the arcade above, and soundproof so that noise is not an issue.

It's still something I'm looking into, but I think it would really be a great addition to my city.

Yeah, it is really large for

Yeah, it is really large for a coffee shop. It's a great idea, and it would work really well in a larger city, but my city is tiny and my building is pretty large.

But if you want to be like them, you'll have to emulate. -Ayria
