What should sprinters know?
Running!
People love to run. No? Just look around. How many of your friends run?
And over the streets and parks every sigle day? Don't matter the weather or sittuation. They are child, adults or old ones, the fact is that people are more and more doing exercises and a impressive number is running.
Despite the fact people have different reasons to do it (maintain a high life quality, loosin weight, be in shape, just for fun or because they really need to run*), running is virtually a way of life. That's my oppinion. I have been seeing friends with their live changed in many ways.
Going through other kind of running, just look at those impressive athletes on the track waiting for a signal (a shot from a gun) to start run as fast as they can. They, the sprinters, are one of the most fast and strong people of the world.
If you think that is just a matter of moving legs and arms very fast to run quickly, you're wrong. One day try to run 400meters the faster you can for 1 time only (talk to your doctor before do it). [i]If you really do it well then you will feel one the most great sensations of your life. The life of these sprinter is very painful and with a lot of challenges: the trains are very though and demands a lot, alimentation and rest controlled, carrying weight and a lot of jumps, pylometric exercices and so on.
The problem is that, specially for high level sprinters, there is a time in which they start out to not reduce their times. It has not related to doing well the exercises or having a good rest... It is the limit. Yes. Sometimes they train more than 2 or 3 years for reducing 0.1 second (this is 5x less the 0.5 second!) and they start to realize that all the effort is being wasted. What is the easiest way to getting stronger and faster? Remember that fantastic sprinter Ben Johnson? That's your answer.
Getting drugs, steroids is a way (illegal) of becoming stronger and resist more to the exhausting routine of trains. Why? This is a hard question but to be simple is "to win". This is easier way to accomplish something that they would not get it so early (maybe never...). Recall Ben J? What about Justin Gatlin? He was banned for more than 2 year of athletics because of getting illegal substances. Note: he had just became the world's faster man of the world (along with Asafa Powell from Jamaica).
I'm protecting them but I really know what they think, how they feel, how hard they have been trainning... Just like many of us do somthing wrong to reach certain level (in your job, family, with your wife or even to help other), the sprinters also do.
So, be carefull with the benefits and side-effects of drugs. Don't go to this side. Always remember that being clear is a differential in a world of many athletes that got dopping.
This is not just for sprinters as said in the title but also for people who enjoy sports.
As very well said in the GrandFather movie (1972, 1975), "Everyone has a price."
* I'm one of them!
The question is: Is that true?
