What’s Wrong With Blogger Party? (by BigBadJohnny)

What is wrong with Blogger Party? That is the question.
I have written, for all intents and purposes, daily for Blogger Party for, about seven months now. Great articles. I love the layout, the ease with which pictures can be added to written content. I do, I love the layout!

Blogger Party promises to pay for written material. People click on ads, they get half the income, we writers get half the income. Well, blast me, but I’ve yet to receive a penny from Blogger Party.

As to readership: on a recent article I wrote for Associated Content, I had roughly 4500 reads. My readership at ITalkNews is in excess of 5000. If we believe everything Blogger Party tells us, there are always several hundred readers on site. Sometimes the total exceeds 2500! So, why is it that read count on my blog is so painfully low?Does it not seem likely, with all those readers out there, reading away, that any one of my great articles, especially when they are new, and just posted, would have hundreds of reads. But no! It has occurred to me that maybe a "read" is only counted it the reader “logs in.

I have written to Blogger Party several times, polite, and cordial. In all fairness, I must admit that on one occasion, I received a reply. On all the other occasions, no.

Maybe it’s just me. But, what’s wrong with Blogger Party?

I have to say I wondered the same thing. I don't have my adsense set up on channels, but it seems to me I am getting the same amount of hits on it as I did before starting blogger party.

But I am enjoying the writing and posting on here so it doesn't bother me to bad.

AngelFace79,

Hi. I agree, writing for BP is fun and easy!
I annoys me that they don't respond to my inquiries. And I don't for a moment believe those "Who's online" numbers!

All of those people aren't just lurking around, sitting there are they? I would think the reads wuld be higher even if the comments aren't there.

A_Nominus_Bob | October 28, 2006 - 9:22am

You seem to be able to ACTUALLY get folks to read and be commentin' on your subject that you write on, although, I gotta be honest it wasn't your writin' stylin's or your topics that first attracted Ol' Bob to your blog...I thought you was that dead actin' fella Richard Harris come back from the dead...now I read you a'cause you get me thinkin' a'bout this big, ol scary world we all got to live in- that and you usually post some rightous pics along will your spoutin'-off blogs. You are alright in Ol' Bob's book.

Adios,
Bob

Yo' DUDE!
You know ol' Bob, nobody ever said ANYTHING so nice before!! Ya'll like the pics an' all! Yawza, Yawza!!!

Unless something radical happens, BigBadJohnny will join up with all you folks at Associated Content.com

Yawza, Yawza!

I suspect many of those "2500" users are robots - I recall excitement early on in the Bloggerparty experience when something called "Googlebot" raised "user" counts from ca. 200 to ca. 1300.

Also, Bloggerparty claims (and I believe it) not to use "traffic exchange" engines, which inflate hit counts artificially.

From various hints I get (for instance, all the comments here about the "pay per blog" sites barring Bloggerparty content), I infer that the Web simply does not think that Bloggerparty is worth visiting. Quality, begging all of your pardons, is very uneven, and there are few if any consistent threads, or strong communities of commentators. Many of the good writers that were here earlier have departed for more lucrative assignments - like Associated Content.

I happen to be too lazy - or perhaps too chicken - to delve into such sites myself. One blog, plus my Blogger site which mostly redirects here, is all I can manage - is perhaps more than I should be trying to manage. I reckon I'm paying for that. Maybe my stuff sucks as badly as sometimes I think it does, but I don't think it sucks any worse than it used to. And yet my hits per blog are down considerably from, say, June. Not the encouragement I need to take this particular show further down the road.

O'Ceallaigh
You are one of the best; why not come to AC and get some real readership?

Ms Zola,
I owe you an apology. I signed into Mylot withoput going thru you. If it works out (they pay everybody!!) I'lll send them a note saying you referred me.
Meanwhile, I'm trying to get O'Ceallaighl over to AC, so, why not you come too!!

Actually, J., I did sign up for Associated Content some time ago, like in May maybe? I submitted two articles (ironically, two that had high hit counts here). One was dumped, the other accepted but with the dismissive comment "it won't make us much money". I figured, if that was the case, why bother?

ms zola | November 3, 2006 - 4:59pm

I appreciate the fact you tried....it's meaningful...I'll try AC but I'm not the writer you and O'C are.

IntricateGirl | October 30, 2006 - 8:20am

OC, the trick to AC is that they want to be able to SELL things. And although I really respect your blogs and discussions, it's clear after 30 seconds of looking around your blog that you aren't known for selling things. You aren't trying to convince anyone to buy a specific brand of toaster or lawn tractor. So I can see why they got great traffic here, but may not be something they can use.

AC is the easiest way for me to pay bills. I've got enough in my queue now to pay off my second credit card. I'm spending the rest of the year coming up with titles and researching these so that next year I can spend 40 hours a week writing articles. This is better money than I made writing for the school paper, and better money than I can make asking if people want "fries with that". It's possibly enough to make as much as my husband's base salary, but if it's that much, it's also enough to make my eyes bleed from staring at the computer screen that long. These articles are decent enough writing, to be sure. But they aren't anything I would consider putting on my blog, because nobody here cares about my fascinating review of the Honda CR-V, or the top 3 holiday gifts under $10.

I guess what I'm saying is that you shouldn't take it personally.

As I mentioned in a guest post on another blog back at the end of August, scientists are damned poor at selling anything. If I were any good as a pitchman, I would have ditched this science stuff and gotten a few bob in my pocket long ago. But if that's all that the world has become ...

As for my hit counts, the traffic I've gotten here since 1 January (yeah, I'm a BP "founder") for all my posts taken together might possibly come close to what "Flavor Flav and Hoopz Don't Last" gets in a week. And with very rare exceptions, my posts don't get picked up by anyone else but the narrow Bloggerparty and Blogger circles, and by the robots. That tells me, in the only terms that matter in today's world, it seems, that I suck.

Someday, perhaps someday soon, I might wind up like Jerry McGuire ("Show me the money!!"). But I will find it to be a sad day when it happens.

IntricateGirl | October 30, 2006 - 9:23am

On one hand, I don't want to see you in the poorhouse (I'd see you there because I'd be sitting directly across from you). On the other hand, I don't want to see you sell out.

I blog here because I can say anything I feel like saying. I blog at Myspace because I have a couple of friends who make me laugh there. I write at Associated Content because I want the money. And that means writing about the "Best Tooth Cleaning System for under $50." Like it was when I wrote at the college paper, I don't particularly care whether I influenced anyone to join a group on campus, or whether I got the rednecks to stop loving their guns so much. I care whether the check is going to clear.

If you can do it without feeling like you are selling out, I encourage you to do so. If you cannot, please don't. There is no price where that becomes worth it.

Hi folks, I recently joined AC (and Bloggerparty) and am also perplexed at how BP can have 600-900 guests "online" but only 4 or 6 registered used signed in. I'm also noticing my read counts here are very low, considering there are supposedly 600 or more people around to potentially read them. And if there are that many "guests" on BP, why aren't more of them signing up as members?

OC, I've read (and liked) some of your stuff and you may want to try Xomba.com. I've been there since August and there are people who post all kinds of stuff, some political/ social/ educational content that gets read and sometimes very lengthy debates ensue. There are admins and moderators around, and I find it's a good community. Can't promise you'll get any more clicks over there, but probably more reads.

As for not getting hits or clicks on your content, I'd agree with IG that selling is a good way to get reads, but it's not the only way. It seems how-to, health, fitness, etc. articles get lots of reads on AC (and in general), as well as articles on music, movies, travel, etc.; these are topics that can get good, appropriate AdSense ads that readers would want to click on, which I would hope would make the AC folks happy and encourage them to pay more $ for such articles.

Well, that's by my cents worth. OC, take a look at Xomba and see what you think. There are definitely a LOT fewer articles there about MySpace and 8th & Ocean!

BigBadJohnny | November 4, 2006 - 7:35am

I received an unexpected response from admin, which I have reprinted below.

(From BP Adminstration)
"Thank you for your compliment on the layout of the site. You are right, I have been very busy as of late, and haven't been able to spend as much time on Bloggerparty as I'd like. But it's good to know there are still members participating, like you."

He went on to say that he noted my suggestion as to more book-mark icons, but hoped to avoid clutter.

In view of his response, I still will be here at BP.
