What happened to all the Drive-In Theaters?

Last weekend I told my wife if she wanted to take the kids to the drive-in. She said OK, we hadn't been to a drive-in for maybe around ten years. I asked my kids if they wanted to go to the drive-in, they are 10, 7 and 4. They're reply was - What is a drive-in? Wow, I wasn't prepared for that. I just didn't think about it, that they would not know what a drive-in was. I should have though, never thought about it much but you just don't hardly see any drive-ins out there anymore. I can remember going to the drive-in with friends sometimes just for a place to hang out at, sometimes not even paying attention to the movie. I must let you know that I'm in my thirties so I was not around in the hay day of drive-ins when they were the most popular like in the 50's and 60', but in the early 80's (my time), all us kids knew what a drive-in was and most of us had been to the drive-in theater at least one time. Anyways, we were looking for a drive-in to go to and actually found only one, that's right, one. We live in Los Angeles County and the first ones I thought about were the ones I used to go to as a kid. First choice was the Foothill drive-in at Azusa, CA. - Found out it had been turned into a college parking lot. Next choice was the Sundown drive-in, I believe in Whittier, CA - Learned that it had been demolished at the turn of the century. My final try was one in the San Fernando Valley in I believe Van Nuys, CA. I had been to a few times - Heard through the gravevine it didn't exist anymore. The only one I was able to find was the Vineland Drive-In in the city of Industry. I believe it is the only one left in Los Angeles County. Makes me wonder how many there are still across the USA. I don't know but I sure hope this one stays open because I'm one who likes to visit the drive-in once in a while instead of going to a walk in. Like mentioned earlier I have not been to one in ten years until recently but I think me and the family will go a little more now and then before they become extinct. By the way, the kids loved it.

I've only been to one drive

I've only been to one drive in movie my entire life...I was around 8 or 9 years old at the time and it was with my parents and my sister...I'm glad they took us because now that drive-in is closed...
