Well The Brokers Win Again

Once again, I am trying to understand the fairness behind these ticket brokers and these shows that come to town.
Here's the story: Bon Jovi coming to the Sprint Center, in Kansas City. The show is scheduled for April 22, 2008.
Tickets went on sale yesterday, which I didn't even realize until around 12:00 yesterday afternoon. I mean after all it isn't until April.
My hubby already agreed to go with me, and lately he has had absolutely no interest in concerts of any kind. It really has never been his thing, but knows how much I enjoy it, so he goes with me.
Well last night I went online to Ticketmaster and found out that the only tickets left were limited view, which is behind the stage. Now I am not going to pay the same money that everyone else on lower level is, to sit behind the stage and not be able to see the show.
The prices were not as bad as I had thought they might be, floor seating was $99.00 a seat, lower level was only $55.00 a seat and I believe that upper level was also $55.00.
Well, I go online to some ticket brokers, and just as I had thought, they have tickets galore! Great seats to be had...but at their prices. These tickets were going for up to $368.00 a seat for lower level. That is triple the price that Ticketmaster was selling them for.
All I can say is- unbelievable! It really pisses me off, because if I want to get to see this show, I am going to have to A) win tickets from a radio station, or B) actually break down and buy some from a ticket broker here in town. Which really is something I don't want to do, because I don't want to support them in any way, shape ,or form. So what do I do? I really want to go.
I only wish that the laws would change against this kind of thing, and it would become a little more fair for those of us that would like to attend a show without spending an arm and a leg, as well as compromise what we feel is wrong.

I agree with you
I agree with you ammorton...but without regulation demand will set the price...as long as people are willing to pay 300+ for a ticket the brokers will be more then willing to accomedate them....While me and you are stuck on the outside looking in:) I've been were you are right now and feel your pain...

and that is what needs to happen
it needs to be regulated so that it is at least fair. Selling a ticket three times what it original price is-just plain robbery. You are right about the demand thing, but it is just being taken advantage of by these sharks. Thanks for reading and commenting.
And what about overseas concerts?
Brokers are a problem. I've been trying to get tickets to some Asian events and have had no luck or people who want to charge an excessive amount and not even guarantee a ticket. I know what you mean!
I hadn't really checked out overseas concerts but
I would guess it doesn't stop here in America. The bottom line is it is scalping and that is illegal. The brokers hide behind the business and call themselves 'BROKERS', and pay taxes, so they do what they do and get away with it. Thanks for the comment.
It's a real shame
Just thank God you weren't after Hannah Montana tickets! LOL I haven't been to a concert since Better Than Ezra in New Orleans at The House of Blues. I had no worries about this then.
I suppose flooding your congressman with angry emails might do something. There does need to be SOMETHING on the law books about this. Hey, did you ever think there'd be a time when Ticketmaster WASN'T the villan????

That was when all hell broke loose in KC about all this ticket stuff because parents were pissed about not being able to get tickets 2 minutes after they went on sale. Alot of people wrote City Hall about this and now they are trying to see what can be done, but they are not breaking any speed records though. Yea, Ticketmaster has to be sitting back, glad they aren't the bad guys anymore.
You would also think that some of the groups would try and regulate some of this outrageous cost. I know they dont handle their own business that is up to to the promoters and managers.
The system is unbelievable, Ammorton,...
And, as we talked about when we were discussing Elton John, there should be a limit on how many tickets can be purchased at one time. I'd originally said 6, but I'd up that number to 10 or so, because there are times when big groups of friends want to go together. Weasels!

yes there is a limit to tickets
purchased, however, the brokers have so many people that buy the tickets for them, they all get the max amount of tickets, and before you know it, there all gone from Ticketmaster.
Hopefully in the future they will figure out how to make a better system. How many concerts am I going to miss waiting for this to happen though? They just announced Celine Dion today, to go on sale Saturday. I know now, those tickets will be gone.
Good luck, Ammorton,...
if you're hoping to go; I hope the outcry gives more people a chance to buy affordable tickets.
