Welcome To The State Of Denial??? Oh Yeah!
So being that I am an alcoholic from hell, this blog is dedicated to all of you nay sayers out there...there are many, many of you!
Welcome to Nirvana, what I call the State of Denial. This state is loads of "fun" some people even get it confused with the state of Procrastination.....no, no, no. The state of Procrastination is a place one goes to when it's time to take out the garbage or do the dishes. Whereas the state of Denial is saying that the heap of crap in the corner is NOT garbage, it's just some month long debris. And dishes? No dishes in Denial....
Now when one is talking about serious issues like drugs or drinking...or drugs AND drinking, then to procrastinate is dangerous no doubt, but to DENY it is positively deadly.
My ex husband comes to mind here, when I asked him if he still drank, his response was "Well not really, I ONLY drink beer every now and then." Yeah and I ONLY eat cake once a month:(
The state of Denial struck my mother once too, only with her it actually killed her. She refused to see a doctor because the cut on her head was "Only Psoriasis" nope it was cancer!
I can't tell you how to get out of this particular state as it's one big fat circle...the only exit is the truth and that can get pretty darn raw and scary...but once the truth gets ya, it's very liberating...Be true to thine own self first, then you can attempt to lie to me, but the odds are I will see right through you! Yes I WILL!

Dangerous denial
What I keep thinking of is that old saying “ignorance is bliss”. For some, sometimes it is! I think back to when I’d last spoken over the phone to my friend here. I was still in Philadelphia and she said she thought she might be pregnant. I recall vaguely that she at least implied that she’d been using. I don’t think I was much use at all because I didn’t want to “know” it. It’s hard to explain, but she’s always walked the line between having a good life and self destruction. In our younger days she would go from having a good home to living in a motel. Or, she’d go from dating a good guy - turning down numerous marriage proposals - to dating a useless guy! But, I always had the faith that she’d do well in life. While we never had much in common, the important stuff was had in spades! Like, being a good mother, trying to use common sense (even if it didn’t always work out so hot) or not abusing drugs or alcohol - we both come from that background - and, just the flat out desire to be good people. I tried my best to not see what is going here. I wanted so badly to believe that there was another explanation. But, I couldn’t take the “state of denial”. The room service is lousy, there’s nothing to do, and she’s still an addict, anyway. Sometimes reality just sucks!

Reality only sucks when it is ignored. No ones life is perfect, but to recognize a serious problem when it is at hand, is key to maintaining some sanity. Ignorance is bliss...but stupidity and denial is deadly.

When nothing can be done about it. I know that you know what I mean. Only she can get herself clean - only she can even desire it. It's so sad to watch someone destroy themselves and even worse to watch them take the kids down, too! I just wish she'd decide to give those kids up. Maybe then they'd have a chance! Unfortunately, it looks like her mom may end up taking them. We'll see...........

her own mother may very well have changed over the years...Hopefully these kids will be to her what her daughter SHOULD have been. As far as getting the help she so desperately needs goes, only if she seeks it, and I mean REALLY seeks it, then maybe she will actually get it. It's very sad to bear witness to someone else's self destruction. *Sigh*
