Weekend Report: The Greatest Show My Ass

So I have to decided to let you all know how my weekend went. I'm not doing this because I think you want to know, cuz you probably don't, but simply because I can. This edition contains a quick tournament update and some circus talk. So here it goes and I hope you enjoy.

1. So going into games on Friday night I was in second place in the pool I'm in. I was also surprised by this considering what my bracket looked like after day two of the tourney, so I was excited about Friday's games. Then going into Saturday's games I was in last place. Good times. I did watch the rest of the games though.

2. Now that the tournament talk is out of the way I can get to the main event of the weekend. My girl's birthday was last week, so I decided I would take her to the Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus. I decided on this because she had never been to any circus, let alone the greatest show on Earth, and because I used to go every year when I was young. I also went last year and it was good times all around.

Like a week a go my girlfriend mentioned that there wouldn't be three rings this year. I heard her say this and I thought she just didn't know what she was talking about. Then when we got there, there was only one ring. At first I thought no big deal, but then the show started. When there was three rings it was great. Whenever they were setting up one ring you could just look at another one and still be entertained. This didn't happen with one ring, they tried to shine a spotlight where they wanted to you to look but it wasn't enough to get you to stop looking at the guys scooping up the horse poop.

That brings me to the animals. When I was growing up, and even last year, the circus had elephants, horses, tigers and lots of other animals. This year the elephants and the horses were still around but that was pretty much it. They even lied to us and said a lady would be coming out with her "wild cats". Then out comes this gypsy lady with house cats, you know like the ones can find in a kitty litter commercial. These cats did some nifty tricks but nothing I had to go to Madison Square Garden to see.

This year the circus just lacked a lot of the things that made it cool when I was growing up. For example, there was no family of trapeze artists. There was a lady who swang on a trapeze and did a couple of flips, but where was the father who was gonna catch the son who was doing the triple somersault for the first time? I used to be captivated by this every year. I will applaud Ringling Bros... for bringing back the Globe of Death. This is like a twenty foot steel globe where guys on motorcycles ride at pretty high speeds. They had seven guys in there at once. That was off the hook, but then the show ended. I felt cheated, I wanted so much more.

I'm sorry I just had to vent about that because I couldn't vent to my girlfriend. She enjoyed the show, I'm guessing because she had never seen it before and had no base of reference. I was disappointed though. I wanna know what happened? Was it the Ringling Brothers that drove the greatest show into the ground or was it that damn PT Barnum? Somebody help me out here.

Yo your tounament stuff reminded me about this-@ Videogames.com they're having a series of brackets to determine the most important feature/change in basketball games. Things like analog control vs shoot/dunk buttons, 3d graphics vs fanchise mode, etc.

As far as the Circus goes I mean after the whole Siegfied/tiger incident maybe people are starting to rethink the whole "Imma put my head in this wild ass animal's mouth" bit.

I have vivid memories of going to the circus and being amazed. When I went this weekend, I quickly realized that times have changed.
