I joined a group called Vampire Freaks at the beginning of the year. A month later my computer died. I borrowed the money for an old, second hand computer and got back online a month ago. That’s when I finally got a chance to really explore this cool and unusual website.
If you can get past the name, it’s a truly great place to hang out on the web. They have “cults which are the same as groups on Yahoo! If it interests you, you can find a cult dedicated to it on this site. The only ones that seem to be missing are bipolar and alcoholic support groups.
If you join a support group as opposed to a group dedicated to a favorite band, general chat, etc., there are very specific rules which truly make this site worth checking out. You can’t make fun of other members or encourage or help to perform destructive behaviors are the big rules. To protect privacy, the moderator must approve your membership, and you must be a member to view the posts.
They are loving, compassionate, and supportive. They are also into the goth scene. And most of them are very young. But if you don’t bother to check out their profiles, you can easily mistake them for being much older than they really are. These are some of the most mature young people I’ve met, on the web or in real life. Either that, or I’m much more immature than I realized.
Anyway, if you are struggling with something that you feel no one understands, or that you can’t bear to share with the people you see face to face, there is love and support waiting for you at http://www.vampirefreaks.com/ I highly recommend checking it out.
