Valencia plastic surgeon Dr. Howard Hu is a native of Los Angeles, and has lived in this city for nearly four decades, except for those years spent elsewhere for his training. He has chosen plastic surgery to be his magnus opus, or great work, ever since he gravitated to this calling at an early age. This field sparked his interest because of its artistic elements and the satisfaction of working with patients.

For his undergraduate studies, Dr. Hu attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) on an academic scholarship where he was admitted as a UC Regent Scholar, an honor given to a select few incoming freshman. He graduated from UCLA in 1991 with both college and department honors, as well as being elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Next, Dr. Hu went to the Baylor College of Medicine where he received his medical degree in 1995, as well as a special citation for his studies in medical ethics. He then continued his training by completing his general surgery residency at UC San Diego in 2000. With his interests in plastic surgery now affirmed, Dr. Hu went on to complete a fellowship in plastic surgery at UC Davis in 2002, where he also served as chief resident. A journey that began in college was now reaching fruition 15 years later.
