Use the Edit Feature

OK, I'm not perfect, but I do check my work and try to ensure that there are no spelling errors or typo's etc.

However, I do get irritated by incorrect spelling - and some of it almost jumps out of the page at me.

I've just seen a title Need More Momey: Here is an Idea, Save - now I read a bit of the article - and I assume the word should be "Money" and then I thought, perhaps people do not understand how to edit their work.

I think the easiest way is to go to "my blog" and find the article you wish to edit, and click on the title, and an Edit box will appear. You can quickly make the changes to correct your work - be in spelling or grammar, and when done hit the submit button.

It is always a good idea to read it after you have submitted - to see if your html codes have functioned correctly, too.

I wonder if it is OK to politely suggest to bloggers that they edit their work if it contains too many errors?

I agree...

I've noticed a lot of typos too, and the ones in the headlines are the most embarassing. One thing I've started doing is typing my blog in a word processing program and do a spell check before posting. Obviously, this doesn't cover everything, but it's a good start. And I've also edited by blogs after posting as well.

Thanks for the post. I was thinking of suggesting it myself, but you seem to be a bit more tactful than I would have been.;)

Word Processing

Yes, I usually do that too - though I confess, not all the time.

Thank you

I know I'm not 100% but I do try. It is a good idea to use a word processing program and spell check. Actually it would be helpful to have a spell check feature here as well!

Some blogs I just can't even read...

There are just too many errors. And sometimes when I read blogs from people that are supposed to be "writing about writing" because they are some sort of expert, and then their blog is full of errors... what's that about? How much should I trust and respect what they have to say?

People, for some reason, want every "T" crossed ...

... and every "i" dotted, but they don't seem to care about what that person is trying to convey. It's no surprise to me why kids can't write in school. They don't want to because they know that whatever they say, they will be criticized for minutia, for errors like misspellings and "sentence structure" and other details which overshadow anything positive they are attempting to express. Humiliation appears to be your goal. Until we get off our high horse and encourage people to write, they will continue to do poorly.

By the way, as a professional editor for 30 years I can take anything you submit and rip it to shreds, paint so much red pen on it that it will make you cry, make you never want to write again.

Now is that what you really want?

Can't you see why blogging has become so popular? Because, with few exceptions such as you, fellow bloggers are largely nonjudgmental about "errors."

Get use to it. Everything ever written has "errors" in it.

run-on sentences

I don't expect perfection. I don't care when there are mistakes in spelling or obvious typographical errors; what bothers me is run-on sentences. Perhaps I should call them run-on paragraphs - entire 250 word posts with no punctuation whatsoever. For example:

i wish people would use capital letters when they start a new sentence i wish they would use commas to seperate ideas use periods to end thoughts completely quotation marks go around things people say or things you quote from other posts and could you please use a question mark to denote an interrogatory sentence a conjunction every now and then wouldnt hurt i get so confused when everything runs together i have to read paragraphs like that three or four times before i start to understand what the person has to say its not worth the trouble

It's like fingernails on a chalkboard.
