NZ driver's licence gave Nai Yin Xue away - the father of little Pumpkin and alleged killer of her mother arrested in US.
Will be extradited back to NZ in due course.
Murder suspect Nai Yin Xue lay hog-tied on the ground in the small American town of Chamblee today, denying he was one of America's most wanted men.
Moments later Chamblee sheriffs looked in his wallet and found his New Zealand driver's licence and the game was up.
One of the most intense hunts for a New Zealand murder suspect, one which had crossed international borders, was over.
Xue had his hands tied behind his back with his belt and his trousers pulled down to his ankles and knotted so he could not run off.
Six American-Chinese men recognised him from a wanted photograph published in the Chinese World Journal newspaper.
They jumped on Xue, bound him with his belt and trousers, and by the time police arrived were sitting on him.
"We responded to a 911 call to a possible wanted person and found him being restrained by six of his fellow countrymen," Chamblee assistant police chief Mark Bender told NZPA.
Xue was purported to be a martial arts expert but Mr Bender said he "didn't give the police any resistance".
He said the local men "had the upper hand on him".
When told Xue was an apparent martial arts expert, Mr Bender replied: "Not today, he wasn't."
Mr Bender said Xue gave police several names before his New Zealand driver's licence was found.
"He was at first denying that it was him and gave our police officers several different names.
"They decided to arrest him based on that and when they searched him they found his New Zealand driver's licence in his wallet with his real name in it."
NZ appreciates the US authorities for catching this fugitive wanted for murder, and possible kidnapping back in New Zealand. The long manhunt is over for one of America's most wanted! And closure for little Pumpkin's family in China and New Zealand.
