Upgrades Already?

I bought a brand new laptop about three months ago. It's a Toshiba and it's pretty nice. Unfortunately, it has Windows Vista installed on it. The problem with that is that Windows Vista uses up too much memory for the computer to run effectively. Essentially, the computer was not built with enough memory to run the program efficiently. It's slow. Sometimes, it takes up to 5 minutes to actually boot up. It can take up to 30 seconds for a webpage to load and sometimes it even takes a minute for the Word program to start up. It's annoying. I talked to a tech and he said that some of the laptops are having the same problem. Basically, they are sold and need an upgrade before you even take it out of the box. So now I have to get like one of those IBM memory sticks or something to get my computer to run efficiently. It's annoying that you pay such a high price for a laptop and it already needs an upgrade before you even use it. Since I have my own business, though, it's important to have an efficiently running machine.

We are getting my daughter a laptop

to take to college, and all have the Windows Vista installed. I dont want her to have any problems with it, so should we look into one of the memory sticks?

good question, ammorton

i can't remember the specifics of the amount of memory actually needed, but the salesperson might be able to answer that question. I just got one of the cheaper models that was on sale so that's probably one reason mine didn't have the optimum amount of memory.

yea, we are also looking at a cheap one

I think it is like 500.00 for an ACER that has Windows Vista on it. I will make sure to ask about this though.

Windows Vista

Hi ammorton,

Congratulations on your new purchase. However, it is really important that you know the basic setup of your computer/ laptop before you can determine if Windows Vista is suitable for you. I have some basic info for you to check with your vendor and some inside tips for yourself.

CPU: Pentium 4 / Athlon equivalent or Higher
CPU speed: 1.4GHz or faster
System RAM: 1GB or higher
Video Card: 64MB 100%DirectX 9 graphic card with Pixel Shader 2.0 hardware support
Direct X version: Direct X 9.0 or better
Free Disk Space: 15GB or more
Hard Disk Capacity: 30GB or more
CD & Sound Card: Required
(The above is basic and mandatory for a smooth running.)

Experts will also tell you that the above is the basics and will be dependent what and how you will be using your computer that will finally determine the correct specs. So as a rule of the thumb I suggest that you get the latest and high performance model.

It will also be good for you to know that there are 4 versions to this OS. Pls Click Here to know more in detail. So please spend a little time before you pay for your upgrades and additional accessories.

Cheerio.
