Updating My Affiliate Performance

blogging for money | making money

Before I get to the main post I would like to stress the one single reason that people do not make money on affiliates. Simply put it is because they do not promote them adequately if at all. How do I know this? Basically because with certain programs I am able to check affiliates under me to see their performance.

I do this because I want to see why I am making money and they are not, only to find that they are not promoting it or using the tools that many good affiliates provide. Some say that I should kick 'em up the backside and tell them to get a move on, but I figure it's not my job to spoon feed them. I provide the means and it's is up to them to make it work. Now to the post itself.

My purpose for writing this post is twofold. The first is to personal so that I can see which ones are working best for me and which aren't. This will help me to concentrate more on the better performing ones. The other is so that it may help others in selecting which ones they may want to join as affiliates.

ClixGalore: One of my better performing affiliate companies. Allows me to pick and choose which banners or links I want to post on my blogs. Naturally I prefer the PPC (Pay Per Click) ads as every click guarantees you an income. By the amount of members that they have on their books I would say that they have a high success rate with their ads so I would suggest that they are also a great pick for Merchants as well.

Commission Junction
: Similar to ClixGalore but to this day I still have not earned a cent. I find that the greatest problem is the lack of (at least they do not make it as easy to highlight PPC ads) PPC ads. if it isn't a PPC ad then the only way you get paid is if someone who clicks on an ad actually purchases something. No sale no pay, and so far even though I have sent hundreds of potential customers their way, no-one has actually bought anything.

Jumbo Affiliates: Similar to the other two. Not a bad performer for me and it's probably because like clixGalore I can pick PPC ads.

As for my choice of affiliate of the month, it goes to my biggest current performer ClixGalore

I'm with Commission Junction also, Sire,...

and if you've checked out one of my sites (actually, I may have to send you the page because you may not know what I've tried) you'll see that I've tried being a bit more upfront in showing off some of the products for a few of the affiliates. I have made money, but only off some things I've directed people to specifically. I keep thinking there has to be a formula somewhere.

Not bad Catfish, I may have to set up a separate page on the blogs to incorporate the same idea.

That's what I'm thinking, Sire,...

I actually asked that question on one of the online forums and it was a suggestion of theirs. Actually they went further with it, but I shrunk it down to this.

I was actually thinking of taking one step further and develop a whole website just to promote products. Will see what I can come up with.

Kind of like an online store, Sire

Lots of folks have these already, which is why I went with the idea of trying to highlight certain businesses and some of their products.

I've had a little luck with

I've had a little luck with CJ. One of my blogs is a site that is specifically dedicated to one product. So, I talk about my experiences with the product, and hopefully people buy it from me. That site actually paid for itself rather quickly, and it earned me my first check from CJ. I'm also featuring specific products from Amazon affiliates, but the payout rate is so low that despite selling a lot of stuff, it's going to take a really long time to get paid.

IG, you created,...

one site specific to the product? How'd you do that? Can you share a link we can look at?

Sure,

Watch my AeroGrow

I've talked about my Aerogarden here before. It's an aeroponic gardening device that sits on your kitchen counter, and grows plants for you. It controls the lighting, watering, feeding, etc. They are pretty cool.

It makes much more sense how you could start a blog for one product once you see it. It would be sort of like someone creating a blog to talk about one specific tv show, or a blog about pendant lighting. And let me add: I try not to run it like a blog where I'm trying to sell stuff. I simply discuss what works for me and what doesn't.

That's interesting, IG,...

you found one specific niche topic to discuss, found the product for it, and that's all you talk about. And you're actually using it, so it's not like you're talking about something you're not even using. I didn't know CJ had just products like that; I thought everything was tied in with a big, large company. Neat; good for you! :-D

I got the product before I

I got the product before I decided to start a blog. It was so cool, and I knew I would be constantly talking about it on my blog anyway. So, I decided to make it into a separate site. I checked around and there weren't many sites on the web that were solely dedicated to that, so I ran with it. The response has been great. I post updates about how my plants are doing, share my mistakes so that others can avoid them, and even have hacks. The company knows all about it, and so far, they've been really supportive.

So, it's much more about a place to talk about one product that I really like than an affiliate store. I think, honestly, if I ever start any more sites that are sort of niche sites like this, I'd go this route. I was really worried that I wouldn't have enough to discuss on the site, but so far, there hasn't been a problem.

Sounds good IG. Now let me see if I can find a totally original product I can promote. The first thing that comes to mind is sex, but I reckon that has been slightly overdone. Maybe something more original?
