Twenty Nine More People are Dead Because of Cartoons of Mohammed

On February 10th I wrote about this ongoing issue regarding the cartoons of Mohammad that were originally published in Denmark and I mentioned that ten people had been killed as a result of the controversy.

Since that time at least 29 more people have died.

On February 14th there were two people killed in Pakistan as a group of 1,000 protesters vandalized western business establishments and burned the local provincial assembly building.

In Benghazi, Libya, there were at least 11 deaths on February 17th when more than 1,000 protesters attacked the Italian consulate there.

February 18th was one of the bloodiest days so far in this whole mess. Sixteen people were killed in Nigeria on that day as demonstrators who were protesting against the cartoons of Mohammed attacked and burned Christian churches and businesses.

By all means let these Muslims file a lawsuit, if they want, against the Danish newspaper that printed the cartoons and started this controversy. Let them communicate their grievances to all the governments in the world if that would make them happy.

But their attacks against business establishments, churches and embassies should stop. The flag burnings should stop. The death threats should stop.

What is the agenda of what seems to be a majority of Muslims as they attempt to integrate into various countries, many of them western countries, around the world? Are they interested to enter a civilized society or are they intent on imposing their own fundamentalism on unwilling hosts wherever they go?

And, if their intent is the latter, how and when must the west ultimately respond?
