True Story passed down

In 1938, my grandfather was riding back home from the ranch on a road he always travels on. He was on his horse, as always, and the day was getting dark.

While on this road, he saw a small kid crying. My grandfather told my dad that the kid looked lost. He asked the kid where his mom and dad where, but the kid did not say anything. He asked the kid if he'd like a ride back home. The kid only pointed to the direction he wanted to go.

My dad told me that when my grandfather picked up the kid to set him on the horse, it felt like he grabbed nothing. He shrugged it off and continued on his way. He kept talking to the kid, but the kid did not respond. A few moments passed, the sun was already halfway down.

He turned around to see why the kid did not talk back and noticed that he was no longer there. He supposed that the kid jumped down and found his way home. A couple of minutes later, my grandfather said that he felt a tapping on his shoulder. He turned around and saw the kid right behind him.

He told my dad that the kid looked different, skinnier, more skeletal. The kid smelled like sulfur. My grandfather was scared but he asked the kid what he wanted, the kid said, "Look at my baby teeth!" The kid smiled and showed his pointy teeth. The smell of the sulfer got worse.

He said that he pushed the kid off of his horse and he just hurried back home not even looking back. This story frightened me for weeks and had nightmares afterwards. I just couldn't get the thought of my grandfather riding back home on a lonley road while the sun was coming down and ecnountering what ever it was that he encountered. My mom and dad say it was a demon, some of my relatives say it was a ghost. I don't really know what it was, but I sure don't want to experience something like that.

My dad said that his dad would act differently and that the only time he came back to his senses was when he told the story and had the house cleansed by a curandera, which means, "healer" in Spanish. He wouldn't ride alone anymore, he would take his two sons to the ranch to help him out and then back.

I believe that this really happened. I mean, a lot of strange things always happen on this planet that are not always explained.

Weird story.

What a strange story to tell.

Had to tell it

I know it sounds weird, but, my dad wouldn't joke about that. Something must have happened to my grandfather, though. He was probably drunk at the time or just very tired I guess. Don't know until time travel is invented.
