Trials and tribulations of toilet training my cats!

Heeeeyyy folks!

It has been a very very very long time since I was here last. O'Ceallaigh, nice to see you're still at the top there! ;)

Ok so here's what I've got for yas.

I am sick to death of cat litter. I've just had enough of sweeping the stuff up, trying to get rid of the dust, post-shower stabs in the feet, the smell, the sight, everything!

I'm sick of my big beast of a male cat, Joey, somehow managing to piss underneath the litter box, and they ain't little piddles either! I'm fed up with finding cat litter everywhere. It's his aim you see. I think he thinks he has a giant thingy, so huge that it doesn't even fit in a 2ft by 1ft litter box! Whatever.

And before anyone suggests the wee crystals I've tried them too. Same problems. More smell!

And what irritates me even more is finding the newly cleaned cat litter box in complete disarray, with litter all over the place. Grrr!

So suffice to say, I've had enough of the stuff.

Solution?

I am in the baby steps of training my two cats to use the toilet for their bowels movements.

I'm crazy?

Just google 'toilet training cats' and then tell me that.

So it's actually day 2 of the toilet training antics. Here's what I've done so far.

The cat litter box has always been right next to the toilet so luckily I didn't have to introduce them to a new room location.

What I did first was put the box on top of the toilet, lid up but seat down.

They seemed a little curious but they used it fine. Joey even continued his 'I've got a big willy' habit. Which was not nice.

I knew though that I'd nave to find a different container for the litter if I was ever going to progress. So yesterday I bought this cheap crappy plastic dish bowl plate type thing. It was a lucky guess shape wise cos it fits neatly over the toilet bowl!

So I've put some litter in that and put the seat down over it. I took them both and showed them the new arrangements. They kinda looked at me like 'what the hell are you on?' but I kept my fingers crossed.

And it paid off! Today, both Phoebe and Joey have used it for numbers one and two! Eeeeexcellent.

I'll keep you updated on how this goes, good or bad. (Fingers crossed!)

If you have or are thinking about toilet training your cat(s), let's have some comments/tips/advice.

I will do this. The thought of stepping out of one more shower to encrust my beautiful feet in sharp cat litter is just too much to bear!

Ciao for now! ;)
