Travelling in Germany - is it just a dream?

In 2005 I was fortunate to travel alone from Australia to the UK – and spent a short time in London, and a few weeks in Ireland, and I’ve been keen to travel again ever since. I’m hoping some money will come my way shortly, and I’m looking at travelling to Europe.

I’d hope to visit Spain, France and Italy, but would just love to visit Germany too, and spend a lot of time there.

I’ve been researching on the Internet, and of course I read Lonely Planet Guides, but I find it easier to get a lot of info on the Net. I can follow links and get a better picture in my mind.

One site that gives a lot of information about hotel is Hotels in Germany and it is easy to check out some last minute deals as well. I’d like to go to Berlin, Frankfurt, and Munich. I think a lot about some of the famous German musicians and I’d hope with these cities I would manage to find some fine performances to attend as well. As well, I might be lucky enough to catch up with a cousins daughter who is a violinist in Munich.

If you are someone who likes to book well in advance you can do so on this website, but I’d rather try and reduce my costs by looking at last minute deals. And that you can do on that site as well. And you can book a year in advance.

There are some amazing castles too all around Germany – and I’ve found a long list of them. I will research some linked with either musicians or writers, as I plan my journey, but the key to my plans is arranging the accommodation.

A visit to Munich would bring back memories of the disaster at the 1972 Olympic Games – I wouldn’t want to visit the scene of the atrocities, but regardless I will remember a little of what happened there.

Do I rent a car? Do I travel by bus or train? Perhaps I shall do all? The very fast trains in Germany have great appeal to me, as our trains in Australia are not quite as sophisticated, and I’d love to travel on the authobahn, though I’m not sure if I feel confident to drive myself!

In Berlin I’d like to visit what is left of the Berlin Wall – I do remember all the celebrations and publicity when it was pulled own in 1989 – I think it would be very emotional to visit there.

I always do a lot of research before I travel – and this will be no exception.

I lived near Munich. You

I lived near Munich. You know, there are a ton of Castle Hotels all over Germany. If you want to go somewhere completely Bavarian and a bit off the beaten bath (but well worth it) check out Kloster Andechs when you go - a monestary that brews beer. www.andechs.de.

You don't need a car, but it's nice if you are the type of person that loves to be random. If you go off peak you can book your travel plans and your hotels as you go along. I've found some real gems that way.
