Trading Up

After a meeting I attended last night,
I take back the comment
That the rationality of my neighbors
Is benign. How could that be?

I attended a neighborhood meeting about
The desire of a few people to remove
Some telephone poles and wires
They felt cluttered their view of the sea.

Nothing wrong with that I guess
as long as it doesn’t bother anyone
They could do it in the nude
With candles, which would suit this place.

Right away, two people said
They didn’t care about the poles
But will go along
Providing they get no flack on their development plans.

One said he will replace three cozy little
Apartments with two homes,
One for his family,
The other for his partner.

The woman sitting next to me
Commented aside that the increased value will be millions,
To quiet her, the neighbor with development plans
Said he’d cut down a tree she’s been targeting.
