Toto "I Won't Hold You Back"

When the dust had settled at the 1983 Grammy Awards, it was the band Toto that had pulled off one of the biggest coups in the award's history (to the dismay of critics). The group snagged six of the statues including ones for Record Of The Year (for the song "Rosanna") and for Album Of The Year (for Toto IV).

Toto's haul at the awards ceremony came almost a year following the spring '82 release of the album Toto IV and it gave a boost to the record's fourth single, "I Won't Hold You Back," shortly after their victory. As the follow-up to the #1 hit "Africa," the band had plenty of momentum already and the song entered the US Top 40 in March of 1983.

With its lush arrangement, the ballad quickly climbed the charts and "I Won't Hold You Back" became the third Top Ten hit from the album, peaking at #10 for one week in May (a somewhat surprisingly strong showing as Toto IV had been out for so long). The song fared even better on the adult contemporary charts where the soft rock love song made it all the way to #1 and completed a year of successes that Toto would never match.
