Too Hot to Write

ModelMom's picture

I am too hot to write. And I don't mean in the Paris Hilton "that's hott", kinda way. It is 102 degrees in Portland today and humid to the point of my wondering when & how we ended up in a rainforest.

Since summer's are fairly short here, a lot of new houses are built without air conditioning....and our house is one of those. So sitting upstairs at the computer is akin to being in a sauna. I guess I'll at least have very clean pores after this post!

So I am keeping this one short & sweet. I need to go stand in front of the freezer again. Adieu!

No AC?!? That is awful! I

No AC?!? That is awful! I grew up in Oklahoma, and even though I've seen firsthand that it's not true, I always imagine everywhere else to be at least hot enough to require an AC.

Here's a trick for a nice cross-breeze. Get two box fans. You need to sit in a corner room for this to work well- one that has a window on two sides of the house. Put the fan in each one so that one is sucking air into the house and the other is blowing it out. Now arrange your couch in the middle of this. When I was in college, also in Oklahoma, I stayed in a dorm with no AC. The summer after that had temps up to 117 (and I was mowing lawns in it). Everyone piled into the lounge and slept, and it was the only way coed sleeping arrangements were allowed. My room happened to be on the corner, and I did this. I actually got so cold I had to use a comforter. I could have charged people to sleep with me, but I knew my mom would get a funny look if I told her that. lol

If that doesn't work, buy that house you were looking at. lol

But if you want to be like them, you'll have to emulate. -Ayria
