TomKat's Baby Suri

baby names | Katie Holmes | Suri | Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes recently delivered a baby girl and decided to call her Suri.

I thought this name was odd when I first heard it, but that seems to be the trend in baby names these days, especially celebrity baby names.

The initial reports claimed that Suri meant "Rose" or "Princess". A more recent news story, however, says that the most common meaning for this name is "Get out of here" - similar to our word "Scram".

I know many people look closely at the meaning of names when choosing a name for their child, while others simply choose a name they like, for a variety of reasons (or maybe it was the only one they could both agree on.)

Are the meanings behind names important, or is it inconsequential? Will it make any difference?

Do you think celebrities are going too far when they choose such "out there" names, or are they just setting trends that many will follow?

I think that names are a very personal choice, but I do think that they can affect a child growing up, especially if other kids tease them because of their name.

I don't know why they do that.

It's weird. I guess maybe it's part of their attention getting nature.

probably

Either that or they just don't want to look like a "follower" so they have to keep coming up with more and more unique names.
