Toddler Murderer in Tulsa Granted Arrainment

I recently blogged about a toddler here in Tulsa, Johnathan Minton. He was killed by his daycare provider. She taped over his nose and mouth as a form of discipline. He was in cardiac arrest when DHS workers arrived to do an unannounced visit since Chiles was under investigation for other charges of Abuse of a Minor.
Since there was no public defender appointed by the court for Chiles, the judge has granted her an arrainment when she should certainly be locked away from the rest of the world.
Many people feel that even though Chiles is obviously disturbed and a criminal of the lowest standards, there was a huge failure of the system by DHS. Why were no parents notified of Chiles' histiry and current charges? WHY was she allowed to continue operating her daycare? Officials from DHS say that they requested she shut down twice and she refused. I think: too bad! YOU are the law, so get out there and SHUT HER DOWN. Obvisously the price was little Joshua Minton's young life.
I simply cannot fathom her not going to prison for a very long time, but I still don't think she should have been granted an arrainment. Just a week and a half after murdering an innocent 2-year-old, she is being let back out into society for the time being. That is like a huge slap in the face to the grieving family as well as the community at large. Chiles is obviously a very real threat to children everywhere. I am afraid that the state fears the responsibility that the public heaps at their feet over tradgedies such as this one, and I think that will try to downplay the entire atrocity! I really really REALLY hope not, but I can't help being wary.
Does anyone else agree with me that she be kept under lock and key at all times, flight risk or not?

not only because of what she did, but for her own safety. People don't like it when kids are killed, and if a lot of people are mad, trouble could be brewing, and then someone will be asking why no one protected this woman. What a catch-22.

I know, it is awful when "justice" cannot be swift!

The judge said that she was granted the arrainment because they failed to appoint her a court-ordered attorney. I think that they were just stalling for time. They must know that if they come down hard on Chiles, some lawyer will take her case and shine the spotlight on the failures of the OK DHS system and the state doesn't want that kind of negative pressure. It's really SO sad and just makes the entire thing sting even worse.

Chiles pleads "not guilty" to the murder charges.
