TO MY LOVING AUNT
On April 30th 1922 a most wonderful woman was born. Her name was Myrtle “Moe” Weathers. Later in life she met and married Eugene Perrier and became Myrtle "Moe" Weathers Perrier.
In 1958 when I was born she became Aunt Moe.
Aunt Moe had three children two girls and one boy. The two girls are now known as Sister Rochelle Perrier, M.S.C. and Sister Christine Perrier, M.S.C. both became nuns of the Marianites of Holy Cross. The one son is now known as Father Thomas Perrier, O.S.B. a Catholic priest.
Aunt Moe was always the most gracious hostess. She would always lay out a huge spread whenever visitors showed up, and would never show up at a family function empty handed.
My father (her brother) threw a yearly Christmas Eve party, and the party never really got started until Aunt Moe and her family showed up. Mardi Gras was also a special time. It meant viewing the Krewe Of Thoth at the corner of Magazine St. and Elenore across from the home for incurables. It meant watching the parade with all the priests and nuns that would show up for a taste of Aunt Moe famous chili.
After moving to Texas in 1993 I never really kept in touch with her as often as I should have. Now I will regret that forever.
On April 9th 2007 Aunt Moe passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her three children. She was laid to rest in a hand made coffin courtesy of the monks at St. Joseph Abbey. The church at the Abbey was standing room only, which is a testament to how many loved her. She was interned at the Abbey cemetery.
Aunt Moe was such a gracious hostess here on earth by lovingly providing her favorite foods to so many friends and loved ones. She now is a guest at the Heavenly Banquet.
I love and will miss you Aunt Moe.
